I don't understand, really, why this kind of scandal would kill the NBA. It would be a GREAT opportunity for the league to flush out the old refs and bring in new ones.
Gambling is bad, but I don't think that a sporadic set of adjusted games changes NBA history too much. I doubt that there was a systematic bias towards one team or another... the Celtics and Lakers weren't good BECAUSE of gamblers influencing games.
I definitely think the credibility of the source needs to be questioned, and even if it's proven true I hope the league uses it as an opportunity to improve its officiating.
All of this nonsense about the refs being raped in prison and whatever... that disgusts me. The refs were making money (illegally) on games. Games where players made thousands of dollars each and where fans were paying to be entertained. Unfair games are, in the long run, less entertaining, but in the GRAND scheme of things what these refs allegedly did is so far from "evil" it's not even funny.
