@blazerbanter

PDX native & current Houston Rocket Terrence Jones was arrested early this morn for stomping on a sleeping homeless man's leg in Old Town.

Per PDX Police, Jones & a group left the Tube nightclub when an officer observed him walk by a doorway were 2 homeless men were sleeping

According to the cop: Jones yelled "Wake up!" then raised his leg and stomped down on one of the men.

The "victim identified as 46-year-old Daniel John Kellerher, received a minor leg injury and did not require immediate medical attention."

You move to Houston, you lose your manners.

Wouldn't expect anything less from a Jefferson DemoRAT!

I had always heard Terrance Jones was a jerk. in HS, in College, and not surprisingly as a pro.

Guess he won't be included in the LMA trade....

The homeless probably is getting out of hand when you can't walk down the street without accidentally stomping on one of them.

Was actually waiting for some right wing nut job to post this seriously.

You absolutely can't assault them, and he should be arrested for it, but it is out of hand according to all my friends that still live in Portland

Homeless people in Portland are pricks. Not that it makes it right though.

What is it withlocal nba players and being pricks? I remember someone posting about how Damon was a complete prick and his first high school team was happy when he transferred.

He is a COMPLETE douchebag. I reffed him and he is not respectful at all.
A whiny BITCH complainer too.

A lot of them have gotten pretty aggressive over the last ten years or so. I've had a couple of run-ins (guys usually in their late teens to mid twenties). About ten years ago a guy broke into my car outside of Yurs, stole all of my climbing equipment and tried to shake me down for 100 bucks (I beat his ass until he lead me to my gear) and I got accosted by a couple of assholes around PSU when I was in grad school; not so much "asking" for money as demanding it, that didn't come to blows but it nearly did.

I don't condone what Jones did and it sounds like he probably went after somebody who was camping in a doorway, so it's not exactly a comparable circumstance, but tensions between the homeless and the greater population is only going to get worse until the city starts to crack down on the packs of street kids.

Climbing gear you say? Are you a gym rat at PRG?

Why are people interested in treating the symptom and not the problem?

No one is asking WHY they are street kids. And let's not come up with some generic, general answer as to how they came to be that way.

All homeless people aren't lazy fucks (not saying you are saying that). Most of them are victims of circumstance or terrible parenting.

You're right it isn't appropriate to genralize. I know that there are good number who are there because of substance abuse problems, another large component are the mentally ill and after the recent recession a lot of people just got down on their luck.

As for the violent homeless teens and twenty somethings that rove downtown I'm guessing a majority are there because of drug problems or started off as runaways and probably picked up a drug habit -- I don't have any hard data on this, but I don't think it's too far off the mark. At least the run-ins I've had I was 99% sure they were on something and I only speculate that because I worked as a paramedic for a number of years and I could recognize "the look."

So if we wanted to "crack down" on them, wouldn't finding what they need (besides locking them up) be the best option (like a job or school)?
People who complain about them being unemployed should think about how they would find a job (that pays a living wage) without a phone or an address.
However the MFs that stole your gear and the others who demanded money from you need their asses beat. Plain and simple.

Regarding the OP, TJ is a fucking DICK for what he did. And whoever he did it to was just trying to get some sleep. Shameful..

You don't just have to use a billy club to "crack down" but the violent assholes that harass and assault people need to be jailed.

A significant number of homeless youth are LGBT teens whose parents threw them out.
