A significant number of homeless youth are LGBT teens whose parents threw them out.

in portland, I find that hard to believe. Nationwide, I'd say sure.

Anyway ... back on topic. Terrance Jones is a douche.

According to the broadest definition of homelessness — on the streets, in shelters, staying with friends or family — this year’s count found nearly 16,000 homeless in Portland. There were 2,869 literally homeless people, on the street or in emergency shelters.

this makes no mention of sexual preferences, but does cite education, veterans, special needs, domestic violence, drugs and alcohol.

So you're saying it's ok what he did as long as he didn't shout out a homophobic slur? I think that's an odd stance, but ok

If a significant number of homeless youth are in violent roving street gangs, and a significant number of homeless youth are LGBT... are you saying a significant number of LGBT youth are violent?

I interpret her statement as just that "there are a lot of gay people who are homeless." Nothing more.

I know. I was being an ass about it. I understand more than most about posting the same damn thing over and over (assclown, crawchuck, etc) but does every post, in every thread have to be about the gay and lesbian community?

I am an asshole, it's what I do, and won't sleep until I am the number one person on ignore or Denny finally gets tired enough to ban me

Me too. Kinda. Mostly, just teasing a little. I hope we've evolved enough to have a sense of humor about this particular subject (lgbt, not homelessness). I guess we'll see. :)

The problem is that Portland has gone too far to accommodate these street kids - to the point they're actually coming here from elsewhere. KGW interviewed some last week - one was from Seattle, another from Kansas, and the third from Texas. GO HOME!

The real question should be.....

Was he high on cough syrup?

To me, there are street kids and then there are the true homeless (alcoholics, people with mental issues or physical disabilities, others with very little hope)

Assholes can come from each group, but I find it's the street kids that are more the assholes. Although you never know what you are going to get from the mentally ill.

Terrance Jones kicking a homeless person laying down (if that is what happened) says a lot more about Terrance Jones than it does about homeless people.

I keep hearing about "aggressive panhandling". I've been approached multiple times by panhandlers in Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco - I never felt threatened. Annoyed, maybe, sometimes they clearly were not all there, but I did not fear for my safety. I may be wrong, at least in some cases, but I do wonder if the aggression is in the mind of the beholder?

LOL ya, that's it

Why are people interested in treating the symptom and not the problem?

Beacuse we care. And just what the hell are YOU doing about it aside from posting on a message board?

No one is asking WHY they are street kids. And let's not come up with some generic, general answer as to how they came to be that way.

OK, Why? Mostly, they're losers. They had choices in life to make and this is the life they chose. Help is daily available and most never take it.

All homeless people aren't lazy fucks (not saying you are saying that). Most of them are victims of circumstance or terrible parenting.

Agreed. Only 99.9% are.

Lucky you.
