The New York Knicks finally got a return on their two years of self-induced misery on Monday, finishing up the final touches on a five-year contract for Phoenix Suns free agent forward Amar'e Stoudemire that is expected to be worth around $100 million. A source indicates a formal announcement from Stoudemire should be forthcoming within the hour at Madison Square Garden.

Aldridge is going to be an all-star by default next year.

Not that he can't earn it, though.

Really?

Melo
Griffin
Duncan
Dirk
Durant
Gasol
West
Randolph
Gay
Milsap

Now assuming Griffin is as good as advertised, which one of those 10 western conference forwards is LMA definately better than? Did I miss anyone?

With Amare's knee, his eye and the fact that he plays no defense and rebounds for shit, I wonder how much patience Knicks fans are going to have when that team wins 35 games next year?

Melo
Durant
Dirk
Gasol

Those are the only 4 that will for sure be better than Aldridge next year. Aldridge is pretty much tied with everyone else besides Duncan, but he'll probably keep declining and play less and less.

Weren't the Kicks getttin pretty much the same #'s from David Lee? I live STAT, but that's a lot of cash!!!

Stoudemire Headed To Knicks

Good. Good for him. Good for the Channing....I guess.

Re: Stoudamire Headed To Knicks

"Stoudemire".

Re: Stoudamire Headed To Knicks

"Studebaker".

Lee is a great rebounder and a below average defender. STAT is a great scorer but a horrible defender. Getting Amare is much more of a lateral move than an upgrade for the Knicks.

Only took them 3 years to do it!

Sorry about that. I should have looked a little harder that this had already been posted.

The knock on Kevin Love is his defense. Amare' is worse, the last two seasons: DRtg: 111; 109.

How about Phoenix's front office? You think Portland's is a mess. They lose a franchise player for NOTHING when they had several offers over the last year in trades. They hardly even tried to resign him. If they were not going to go all out for him, then they should have traded him. Maybe I am missing something, but I don't understand what their thought process was.

If you look at the stats, um, yeah, there were getting from Lee what they should expect from Amare. But, did Lee ever scare anybody? "OMG! It's David Lee. We are fucked tonight - no way to stop that dude!" It will be interesting to see how that works out.

Thought process?

Money, money, money, money, money, money and after all those thoughts - money!

All the offers they got for Amare were either, total crap, or big, long deals coming back, which they didn't want. They played chicken and lost, but are likely not too sad about it. Their fallback option, roll out cheap players, don't go over the lux tax, and save money - makes the owner happy. Front office had nothing to do with it. Their hands were tied.

I'm interested in seeing how Stoudemire plays without an All-NBA PG feeding him the ball. I think this is a ridiculous contract. Probably the worst of the summer so far. I'd say Joe Johnson, but Atlanta didn't really have a choice with him.

This does make a David Lee sign and trade much more likely. NY will probably wait until LeBron and Wade commit to other teams, but after that they may be content getting young talent with upside along with a solid starter on an expiring deal.

My dream scenario would be trading Miller/Rudy for Lee

Then trading Batum/LaMarcus/JPEC/Bayless/picks for CP3 + Posey

He outplays Duncan head to head regularly he just doesn't bring it like that every night. He also can beat West fairly often. He's certainly better then Gay.

Obviously Melo, Dirk, Durant, Gasol (really a C) and possibly Millsap are all better.

I wonder if NOH would have any interest in LMA with West on board. I still say take out LMA, throw in Camby and take back CP3 and Okafor. Your Miller/Rudy trade for Lee seems really balanced and makes sense for both teams.

PG: CP3/Johnson
SG: Roy/Williams
SF: Wesley (MLE)/Babbit/Posey
PF:LMA/ Lee/Okafor
C: Oden/Lee/Okafor

looks delicious and is plausible as NOH is in salary hell and CP3 has signaled his discontent. LMA would benefit almost as much as Oden from CP3. LMA runs like a Gazelle and Cp3 LOVES the Open court with Lee and Oden in there you could definitely run with either unit.

EDIT: you needed AMEC to NOH for my trade to take back Posey AND Okafor. This wouldn't work whoops.

Yeah Miller/Rudy is a package that I think NY would seriously consider if they end up being unable to get another significant free agent to sign. Dre being on a 1yr deal is great for NY's possible 2011 cap plans of going after Melo and Parker.

I was thinking that LaMarcus would have much more value going out in a trade than Camby, although your right it would be a more crowded frontcourt for the Hornets so perhaps a 3rd team could get involved. But West, LaMacus, Okafor is a very good big man rotation. I don't think they could ship us Okafor instead of Posey as the salaries would be pretty far from matching up due to LaMarcus BYC status.

CP3, Roy, Lee, Camby, Oden would be a pretty freaking awesome. With that roster we would want to target guards with our MLE such as Mathews, Farmer, and Mason. A defensive 3 would help too.

NY would have Miller/Rudy/Danilo/Amare/?... still not great but better then last year and very flexible for next offseason.

NOH would have Collision/Bayless/Batum/West/Aldridge/Okafor and save a few dollars.

There is mutual benefit for all teams, but we probably benefit the most from those trades so we could send out some future picks.

They probably could have signed Lee for have as much money last year. I bet Amare' looks pretty average without Nash spoon feeding him shoots.

Huh. Seems like the Knicks just went through hell to unload Zach Randolph.

Now they have an overpaid defense-less scoring power forward who doesn't rebound instead of a defense-less overpaid scoring power forward who rebounds.

Progress.

Yeah but Amare' looks a lot more imposing than Zach.

It's all about Lebron still. James came out and said to get him either Amare or Bosh. NY gambled and got Amare, hoping that would get them Lebron. If not, I guess you could do worse than signing a top 2-3 PF in the league?

An interesting thought popped into my head after reading this...imagine how gawdy Zach's stats would be if he played with Steve Nash.

Why not trade Lee and filler for Nash - reunite him with Amare and Coach?

Then if NY were to win the Lebron sweeps - you'd be looking good in NY. Alternatively, Wade joining Amare and Nash would look good too.

This would leave Lebron and Bosh to join Chicago (a New York - Chicago series would be fun as hell to watch)
