The same goes with David West, he made both of those guys. There's a reason why they collapsed when CP was injured.

There aren't many teams that wouldn't collapse with a player of CP3's caliber disabled. What would happen to Portland if Roy went down? The same thing. Does that mean Lamarcus isn't a very good player? No it doesn't. West is a good player. He just isn't a "carry the full load" type of player. No need to rip on him for it. He is what we thought he was.

David West has made back-to-back all-star games. Without Chris Paul I don't see any way that that happens.

Brandon Roy hasn't brought anyone with him to the all-star game, and I doubt that he will. If Aldridge or Oden makes it it will be because of their own merit... and the success of the team.

I disagree with that. If Brandon Roy went out with injury, nobody from the Blazers is going to an all star game because they won't win enough games for anybody to be picked. It's hard enough to make an all star game, but when you team is getting the shit kicked out of it, it is impossible. When you win, you increase your chances. I don't think any player carries other players to the all star game with them. I think team success carries players to the all star game. At least as far as the coaches voting in the remaining roster go. That fan vote bullcrap will never have any rhyme or reason.

It is very obvious that once you make an all star team in the NBA you are in an elite club of players that is considered more than the others every year. West broke that barrier down by getting to play in a year where many stars were plagued by injury. Once you are in, you are going to be considered every year as long as you put up good stats. If you're team is winning, even better.

We disagree about the importance of Brandon Roy to this team. I think that, while the team would definitely be less good, the Blazers would still be a playoff team. Rudy is no Brandon Roy, but he'd be a decent starter. Without Roy, there would be more shots for Aldridge and/or (when he matures and grows in stature as I expect him to) Oden, and scoring points is the single biggest factor in making all-star games.

Going back to Paul: you think that West would put up the same numbers that he does without Chris Paul setting him up? That's the whole point of what we're saying: Paul makes West's stats better--a lot better. That improvement makes him an all-star consideration every year.

Brandon Roy hasn't been able to do that with a teammate yet, in my opinion, and because of the nature of his game and position, I'm not sure that he ever will.

Once the team starts winning upper 50's games and advancing in the playoffs, then other Blazers will have a chance, but not until then.

David West is assisted on 58% of his FGs. For a player to have such a great impact on another person as to make him into an All Star, I would think he would get assisted on a higher percentage of his baskets. Compare that to other PFs in the league, Aldridge was at 57% Dirk 56%. Gasol 57%. Bosh 53% Amare 57%. Boozer 63%. Doesn't seem that he was really all that different than most of the PFs in the league in that regard. It shows that creates his own opportunities just as often as the rest of the PFs in the league. Obviously, a lot goes into each game, but if a player was assisted a very high %, I can see it as being a product of a system/player. (david Lee was assisted 66% on his shots. Rasheed Wallace 75%, Garnett 74%, Kenyon martin 71%). But all of the other top PFs are close to where West is, which seems like he's ceating for himself just as much as other guys are.
