OT: Where where you when Magic announced he caught teh AIDS?

Aids propaganda, the headline every day in the 80s, was part of the destruction of the sexual revolution. Magic proved that the paranoia it caused was false.

I was in a small grocery store on Lungo Africa Street in Florence Italy. Though my Italian lacked, the headline on the newspaper combining MAGIC JOHNSON & AIDS with his picture bitching about a call/looking distraught underneath translated the gist. Less then a month later Freddie Mercury died

So what's Magic's recipe for living so long and not contracting AIDS? Was it that he was in great shape? Caught early? Aggressive retroviral medicinal/drug treatment?

my understanding is that he's on the right drugs to keep it suppressed, but I'm hoping someone with true insight to this will answer
