They are currently 5th in the conference, behind and with a loss to the Rockets, who we all know won't make the playoffs, and barely beat the 76ers, which seems to be one of the criteria for this question

Re: Will the Spurs make the playoffs?

I remember last year how they looked pretty mediocre during the regular season. One of these years (maybe not this one, but you never know), they'll flip the switch but the car won't start. Hell, even last year they nearly got bounced in the first round before waking up.

Frankly, there's no guarantee for any team that they'll make the playoffs in the West. And we may see situations where Pop can't rest his fogeys as much because they aren't winning those games anymore.

Thanks for staying on topic. Great post

Re: Will the Spurs make the playoffs?

They have the same record as the Blazers. Do you think the Blazers won't make the playoffs?

Re: Will the Spurs make the playoffs?

Kingspeed is already married.

Well he didn't think Portland would last season and they had a better record at this time.

Have they played Detroit? If they only barely beat Detroit, then there is a chance their playoff streak is in jeopardy.

Apparently, it's now acceptable to start threads intentionally mocking and baiting another forum member, as long as you limit it to one thread per 24 hours. Lovely...

Everyone knows Texas will declare independance and start the TBA as soon as they conquer northern Mexico..so no, they will abandon the NBA and Pops and Cuban will run for emperor of the new Texas Basketball Association

Unlike the Rockets, Hollinger's playoff odds have the Spurs as a near lock to make the playoffs. Currently:

SAS Playoff Odds = 94.8%, Projected Record = 55-27
HOU Playoff Odds = 51.8%, Projected Record = 46-36

Both teams are currently 13-4, but a quick check of Hollinger's Power Rankings show the Spurs are currently ranked 5th in the West and the Rockets are 9th - for all the usual reasons (SOS, MOV, record in the last 10 games, etc.).

Of course, this was all pointed out to you several times in the will the " OT: Will the Rockets make the playoffs?" thread and if you were actually serious about your question, you would have looked it up before starting this thread.

Also, since this thread has nothing to do with the Blazers, you should have labeled it OT. You've been here long enough to know that. If you're going to start threads mocking other forum members, at least do it right.

Eh whatever. I just assume it's legit and answer accordingly. It turns up surprisingly good conversation if you try.

This applies equally to MM and KS bonkers threads.

Re: Will the Spurs make the playoffs?

BNM, there are extenuating circumstances with many western conference teams; OKC won't be this bad forever, etc. The Hollinger-bot ratings aren't as useful this season as other years; SOS and MOV are good, though, and as we get further along in the season it'll prove more useful.

Re: Will the Spurs make the playoffs?

Yes, I think they will. They are notoriously unconcerned with the regular season. Maybe someday that will come back to bite them but I don't think it will be this season

Agreed, injuries come and go, teams get hot and cold, Pop gives away an occasional regular season game to rest his veteran players and keep them healthy for the long run, etc. The point is MM (supposedly) wanted to discuss the Spurs chances of making the playoffs today, and based on their performance to date, when factoring in SOS, MOV, etc. it seems like an asinine topic for a thread - certainly one that should have been labeled OT.

The Rockets, on the other hand, when all factors are considered, have been teetering at right around a 50% chance of making the playoffs, according to Hollinger. So, discussing their chances of making the playoffs seems like a much more interesting topic for discussion.

But, this isn't about what is and isn't an interesting topic for discussion. It's a personal vendetta that's allowed to pollute this forum on a daily basis.

Which I did. I even used the exact same source and the exact same reasoning as I did in Eric's thread about the Rockets playoff chances.

It does bug me though that one forum member is allowed to continually start threads mocking another forum member. If that doesn't violate the letter of the terms and conditions of posting here, it certainly violates the spirit. Deliberately mocking and baiting another forum member by starting new threads on a daily (or more often) basis is much different than responding to what someone actually posts. If you disagree with someone, post a response to them refuting what they wrote. That's totally fair game and falls under the realm of attack the post, not the poster. Disagreement and sharing different points of view, especially when backed up with reason, logic or data, is pretty much the basis for all internet discussion forums. Constantly starting new threads to mock another forum member seems extremely childish to me.

It's more of he's trying to bait the mods into doing something. MM is a strong advocate for the rules being consistent and fair for all, which there is nothing wrong with that and I agree that they should be. But to achieve that goal MM likes to push things so that he becomes the victim of the evil mods actions. As soon as something is done he will then complain about how terrible and unfair the staff is here. And once again I agree, the staff is terrible and he does a great job of exposing that.

As long as he limits his ongoing protests of the injustices of the S2/RC2 staff to just one post a day I'm going to allow it.

They should make it to the playoffs. Popovich does a good job of managing their minutes during the regular season and having them at full strength by the postseason.

Seriously Sly. This is exactly the kind of thing that has killed O-Live. As hard as i have tried i had no chance without being able to kill this kind of post.

Antagonize, play the victim card, lather, rinse, repeat. It gets old after a while.

Unfortunately, he does not limit his protests to the form staff. In his "campaign" to right perceived forum injustice he has chosen to mock another long time forum member on a daily basis. As I said, disagreeing with someone's post is always welcome and drives interesting discussion. I do not find the daily mocking of another forum member interesting at all and think it completely violates the rules of this forum. If he wants to call out the forum mods, let him do so, but not at the expense of ridiculing another forum member on a daily basis.

Rather than limit his mocking to one new thread every day, why not merge them all and move them to the OT section where they belong. This isn't about basketball, this is about MM getting his way at the expense of another forum member.

Even if this thread was intended to be serious (yeah, like anyone who has watched the defending champion Spurs during the Duncan/Popovich era really believes they are going to miss the playoffs), it should be labeled OT since it is not about the Blazers. His intent is clearly to mock Eric's thread about the Rockets playoff chances, but at least Eric followed proper protocol and labeled his thread OT.

BNM

Why is it assumed this thread is to mock someone? I saw some of the other OUTSTANDING threads people have started and wanted to participate. In those threads, long before Hollinger's playoff bot odds came out, one of the criteria for the Rockets not making the playoffs was there game against the Sixers where they Barely won without 3 starters. S.A. had only 2 starters missing but barely won. Seemed like one of those enthralling threads others start.

BNM seems to value one thread over the other for some reason, which is fine. Simply dont respond to mine

If this is all coming from a half joking sort of way, then I guess I can appreciate it as performance art.

MM, if you really ARE blood boiling pissed, vengeful, and prone to petty attacks due to your unhealthy obsession with moderation fairness and consistency, im not sure what to think

There is some legitimate basketball conversation going on in the thread so I'm going to leave it. If people don't like the thread don't post in it and it will quickly fade away. I myself in the past have made threads mocking or poking fun at previous threads.

If Brian, Nate or Wheels wants to step in and more or delete the thread that's fine. We view things differently but as it stands right now I'm not having a problem with this thread. I did add the OT to the thread title. I do very much appreciate your thoughts and opinions on this. MM continually mocking Kingspeed is a bit confusing and worrisome. I wish he would mock me directly instead because as I'm sure we would all agree, I thoroughly deserve it.

Re: Will the Spurs make the playoffs?

As for mocking, I try not to. There was a forum member telling me they owned me in another thread though. That was ok I guess?

Re: Will the Spurs make the playoffs?

When Timmy retires, are they just done? How important is he still? They are such an enigma

I know its been 5 years of "when will the spurs stop being good" but...when?

Popovich has mentioned in the past that he's likely to retire at the same time Duncan does. So, it might be likely a tough challenge for the Spurs to overcome the departure of the two sure fire HOFers
