I have seen this mentioned quite a few places lately. I just don't get it.

What's hard to get? Since there's no consensus #1, it's about team need and potential.

Maybe Cleveland doesn't think they need a 2006 pounds injury prone center right now, they need a SF.

I get it if they trade down and get him fine but to draft a guy at number one who does everything good and nothing great when you can trade down and get him and another asset is stupid.

Not sure trading down will work. They could only trade down 1-2 spots and I doubt they would get much from either team to make it worth while.

Wouldn't even a future 2nd round pick be better than nothing and I'm sure they could get a little more than that.

For some reason trading down a few spots doesn't really make a lot of sense in this draft because there are about 4 players in contention for the #1 spot, so unless 2/3/4 really really really likes someone and doesn't' want to risk losing them I doubt you could get a lot unless your willing to move down into the mid to late lottery.

Wasn't that the same complaint about Roy coming into the league. Good at everything, not great at anything.

It was also his age and his past knee problems added to that.

As well as Wesley Johnson...

I'm not completely down on Otto Porter. I just don't see him being worthy of a top-3 pick. I think he's more comparable to Evan Turner than Brandon Roy... which isn't a bad thing, but it's not what you'd want out of your #1 overall pick...

BTW - Just thinking about how the talk around the league seems to be pretty negative toward, has anyone heard of a team that's really sold on the guy, enough to give up significant assets to trade for the #1 pick?

The problem with Wesley Johnson and Turner is they weren't as long, explosive athletically and were 22 and 23 when they were drafted while Porter is 19 years old and very much has a lot of upside. BTW, I never liked Wesley Johnson. I was baffled when he was taken 3rd.

I think we will know more after workouts.

Well, I wasn't that baffled--it was Minny (and 4th). :dunno:

You can bet the Cavs are desperate to trade that pick. If not, maybe they should look at Bennett.
