Haha, nicely done.

I was kind of hoping for Faried like everyone else since rebounding and toughness are another major weakness, but I cant understand the vitriol being spewed in the forum right now. While I agree it's nothing to be elated about, it seems wait and see should be the general feeling. There are things to like with both acquistions today.
If you understand that we did NOT get Hamilton and we gave up the chance to select Faried as part of the deal, maybe you would understand the vitriol.

Maybe we actually thought Faried sucked, and we just said we wanted him to put up a smokescreen.

Even though I have already given an F- on this day, I will try to think of something positive here. Maybe they felt that Felton's improvement this year was not due to the Antonetti effect but due to a maturation process ala Chauncy Billups. Since Felton only has a one year deal they can test out that theory until the trade deadline. At that point they will have Camby and Felton expiring, the new CBA will be in effect and teams will know where they stand financially and maybe Portland can make a good deal while taking on some large contract.

Don't try to tell us what we were thinking. You know we liked him.

thats a possibility, if we didnt want him, its not like we "missed out" on him

Ok, maybe we were a little infatuated, but we weren't proposing marriage or anything. It was just a physical thing. He didn't mean anything to us.

I guess. I don't put a whole lot of stock in 26th picks though, and the agreement to not draft Faried is speculation. Plus there are good arguments for taking Smith over Faried, from what I've read. Its a gamble, but if Felton can give us comparable value to Miller, we got 7 years younger at the point guard at the cost of the 26th pick in an arguably poor draft. I dunno....seems over-reactive to me.

We drafted a combo gaurd with the 21 when we have one on the pine waiting (elliot Williams ) who has a ton of potential. So Instead of drafting a perfect fit for our backup 4 we draft another combo gaurd. Then we pay out the ass for a mediocre pg. I would have much rather called up cha and asked for one of the twins they have at pg ( Augustine and kemba are basically the same player ).

I hope you're right that they really preferred Smith, because if you're not Chad Buchanan was lying to the fans today. I guess some of us were expecting a lot more but we'll get over it, especially if Felton decides to get in shape and do a good job.

Combo guard has poor connotations associated with it. I think people immediately think 2 guard skills in a point guard body. Is that really the case with Smith? I'm asking by the way, cuz I have no idea. From what I'm reading, the guy has legit point guard skills as well who is versatile enough to play some two. That seems a positive. Terry Porter was a combo guard by this definition.

Giving up Miller and Rudy is hardly paying out the ass though. Maybe you mean, there were better deals out there.....but who knows.

He has legit PG skills but so does Williams. Williams was a better shooter and is way more explosive, so I just don't get the pick.

Scores a ton, but takes a lot of possessions to do it. Horrid 1.6 A/T ratio in college. Short.

He's like the definition of combo guard.

To me, that sounds like they could play together instead of getting in each others way. I think that's a positive.

Did Duke need him to score a lot? Miller's turnovers seem to go up when he puts his scoring cap on. You're right, that's a bad ratio for a point.

Part of my issue with him is that he hasn't played that much PG. He ran the team pretty well this year, but ... that's about 3/4 of one college season. I'm not sure that it will translate into being able to play the point in the NBA.

Yeah, Smith+Miller+Hamilton

I'd be much happier.

Spears is on 750 right now, talking bad about Felton, saying he's not in the best shape, rubbed some people in Denver the wrong way.

Basically, saying we fell flat on our face with the trade.

Wait, so a media person actually knows what he's talking about? GTFO!?

^^ the dude needs to lay off the creatine powebuilding shakes. He's thick.

I've been on the anti-Miller/hat-guy bandwagon since before it was cool .

::bump::

With the 10th player (or so) going down with another (joint) injury I thought it would be appropriate time to bump this thread after they laughed off a sports kinesiologis diagnoses and opinion back in 2008 and everything this kinesiologis said would happen is happening.

Haven't you heard? Most think that guy is a quack

Also, what the common fan knew last summer (draft/trades) were right and as clear as it was then it's even more so now.

Great management team we have here in Portland.

I've watched Smith intently since he started getting a little PT.

He has shown me absolutely NOTHING. He's a 4 year Duke guy, too. WTF? How could they pass on Faried like that?

It's nice for me to read an older thread and not feel like my past self was a total moron. It gives my present self confidence that I've got a chance to avoid seeming like a moron to my future self.

I didn't like the Smith pick, but I didn't think the Miller/Felton deal was that bad because they got a solid PG for an aging veteran. I thought Felton was solid anyway. Just be glad Felton only had a 1 year deal.....

The Blazers can redeem themselves by signing Dragic or Williams this offseason, and if we retain JJ Hickson, I think that will make up for the Faried blunder. Nolan Smith needs to go to D-league till his rookie contract expires, then go to Europe.
