Hmm....not sure why Ottawa did this deal doesn't make much sense for them..give up youth and size and salary and throwing in a second....something seems off
 
Not much to not like about this deal. Gorton has started his remaking of the rangers
 
Why did not they include Nash and get a bigger package out of this? That would have been something and made gorton a contender for the GM of the year in 2016/17 season.
 
I have a lot of respect for Brassard. However, I can't argue with this deal. If Gorton can swing that Nash for Girgensons deal, he will finally be showing something. Girgensons is a guy I think will blossom in a bigger role. Heard that ZB is a big time PK guy as well. They have really upgraded the forwards at the PK spot.

I get the sense that Jooris might be here for one year. I can see them getting Girgensons and then going Stepan, ZB and Girgensons down the middle with Lindberg eventually centering the 4th line which would be insane.

Either way, a lot depends on getting the Nash for Girgensons deal done. That would open up a world of possibilities. I really don't see Hayes fitting in here unless he can play wing. He sucks at center and can't win a faceoff if his life depended on it. It's always the deals you don't hear about that usually happen.
 
I know Zibanejad played for U17 and U20 Sweden teams at Worlds but neither Fast nor Lindberg were on roster...just curious
 
Oh ok i just figured they did since they're right around the same age.
 
Someone hurt this feelings so he left the board. He still lurks.
 
The three all played in the Swedish league for different teams 2010-2012. Sather left Gorton in a tough situation but he was able to free up cap space and make the team bigger.
 
It's taken a while, but Gorton is finally shaking things up in Rangerland. Yes, I do expect more
moves to take place. Could this be Rebuild -on-the-fly?

that report... is a lie! he doesn't play big or physical. he's skilled but inconsistent. He'll get 8 points in 12 games and then score 5 points over the next 20. He always has a point of the year where he goes on scoring runs, gets fans excited and goes back to being a non-factor. I think that's why the Sens moved him. He's young though and the consistency issues could disappear, but Dorion was the one who pushed for drafting him and has followed him his entire Sens career. Something tells me he was moved because they believe he's near or at his ceiling as a player. only time will tell though.

Just saying all this to let Rangers fans know there are risks with zibanejad, otherwise the Sens wouldn't have made this move. He wasn't upset with his role on the team nor was he a problem in the locker.

Yeah that has to be the case otherwise it makes no sense what so ever for the Sens

Of course there are some risks, the kid is even younger than Miller, Hayes, Lindberg and Kreider. He just turned 23 a couple of months ago, the surprising thing would be if he HAS figured it all out by now. If you don't like risk you might as well stay out of the trade market altogether. The 23 year olds out there that don't have bouts of inconsistency, that are already established first line forwards, are not available in trades for 29 year old second line centers.

Also, everything this guy said could also have been used to describe Brassard when we first got him.

There are benefits to this trade besides just on the ice. As we saw last year the team was going nowhere without a little bit of a shakeup and this helps.

Like the rest of the hockey media who constantly says the Rangers will suck every year, all their prospects suck, all their trades suck. The Yandle, St. Louis and Staal trades turned out to be disasters. However, this trade looks to be a steal. It seemed that it wasn't lost on the brass that Brassard was a disgrace defensively in the playoff Pitt series. I think there is something else to consider in this trade. Brassard was probably not happy to see the contract Stepan got compared to his contract when their production is very similar. That might have been an issue going forward. I don't care that Stepan is younger than Brassard. Players look at like I'm better or as good as he is and he's getting paid 1.5 million more.

ok believe what you want, I only live in Ottawa and follow the Sens a lot closer than you do....
I'll admit to not know that much about Brassard, the consensus in Ottawa is that he's a better player than Z now but in 3 years who's the better player is the risk the Sens took

well I saw that 'scouting report' someone posted and just wanted to throw some reality on what Mika is. He's not a power forward like those beasts out west in Anaheim, LA, Chicago, St.Louis and San Jose. He is skilled and will score but I wanted to help Rangers fans prepare for the scoring droughts as well. I'm thinking Mika can go one of two ways. Either the trade wakes him up and he becomes a beast (Sens fans fear) or he is what he is, a good player who will give glimpse of being great but then go back to ok.

I know he's only 23 but he's had 4 years in the NHL and maybe the Sens management saw enough to think the latter. The only other thing that makes any sense is that Sens have a lot of youth and needed to move some of it and the fact that JP Pageau out played Mika for most of the year made it hard to justify having him as the 2nd line Centre.

So in other words perhaps we got another kreider...a lot of potential and at times will amaze you then other times you think man if he only tried harder all the time he could be great

sounds about right. The TSN1200 (local sports radio) guys mentioned that the feeling for some was he didn't LOVE hockey, he had other interests (producing music primairly) that he was more passionate about. That's speculation and no one know for sure.

Best case scenario this is one of those trades that lights a fire under his butt and he hits that next level he is capable of and the Rangers have a 60+ points guy for the next 8-10 years. I liked Mika and I hope it works out.. but as a Sens fan I hope it doesn't work out too well.... They already royally messed up the Ben Bishop trade (I was against that).

Can you give me some info on what to expect from Brassard? I feel like the Sens forwards are mostly 2nd line guys and they don't have any top shelf forward (Mark Stone may be getting there though, eveyone loves him and his game).

This is what is so frustrating about you, Dump. The guy is not trolling and is simply offering a different perspective as someone who has followed him closely and things he makes note of, like inconsistency, are valid points. Don't you think if he did all those things in the report consistently (power skater, hockey sense, etc) his price would have been much, much higher? But just because he's taking a different stance than yours you jump down his throat, like you do with everyone else.

Stop being some combative all the time so everyone can enjoy the board.
