Brassard is a good player. He was underwhelming and inconsistent when we got him but he's turned into an established top 6 forward. He's a top-notch PP guy who moves the puck quickly and effectively. Much more of a playmaker than a shooter, but he also has an accurate shot and a great slapper that for whatever reason he only uses about once every ten games. He can be very creative offensively and when he develops chemistry with a winger they can get real hot in the offensive zone. Elevates his game in the playoffs and was one of our better playoff guys during his time here. He's also above average on faceoffs. Off the ice he's a fan favorite and just an all-around good guy. One of the more social guys on the team (not in a way that harms his game).

That said, he is definitely not a 1C. If you were hoping he would be that for you guys you will be very disappointed. He is best situated on a second line. During our SCF season he was actually our third center. His defense also leaves a lot to be desired. His production drops off dramatically on the road if you look at the splits, and that's because he couldnt be sheltered and given favorable matchups (there's a lot out there showing that he got way easier matchups and zone starts than Stepan). When Stepan went down there is a quote out there where he basically said he was overwhelmed playing against the other top centers. He's not all that small physically but tends to play small at times. Easy to knock off the puck. He does play with a little bit of an edge but it's more of a pest-type edge than a physical-type edge.

If your expectations are for a solid 2C who can contribute on the PP while also sometimes being a liability defensively I think you'll be satisfied.
 
Bullshit. He's a troll. As one poster said. Heard the same thing about Brassard. I don't need that tool to tell me what Zibanejad is. I've seem him play. It's the same crap from non Rangers fans every time. Every time they trade away a player he becomes great. Every time they trade for a player he sucks. Every time they sign a player they gave him too much money. Every time the have a prospect in their system, he sucks. Yet, you guys are so clueless you listen to some dumbass who shows up out of nowhere like he knows something. I'll still laughing about how the entire world said Stralman was garbage and a joke. Not to mention how the entire world had us giving up the entire farm and team for Rick Nash in that deal. Or how they made Callahan out to be this incredible talent when they dealt him with the absurd money he wanted. He sucks now. Tampa can't wait for that contract to end.

As a Rangers fan do yourself a favor. Don't listen to anybody from another fan base or the media. You'll do much better. I mean, it's hilarious that the Rangers have one of the top goalie prospect pools in hockey and various sites say they have no future number 1 netminder. That's the consistent crap you here when you don't talk to Rangers fans.

Yeah I got the feeling he would not challenge for the 1st line, the defensive lapses do not bode well for a Sens team that is almost always near the bottom in shots allowed but maybe that mentality changes for the team with a new coaching staff and if Karlson buys in.
Hopefully he's the type of talent that can get Bobby Ryan going who's been okay but not worth the $7+mill he's paid. Ryan definietly benefitted from playing on a team with Getzlaf and Perry who drew the focus of defenses.
If the Sens are able to resign Hoffman I think that will be a nice line and having veteran Pneuf and youngster Ceci on the blue line it could end up being a surprising line in the NHL. (Gotta have my hopes up that this trade pays off afterall)

wow, just wow you are one jaded sports fan. way to circle the wagons... you'd fit in well with the Blazers fans on here. Sorry for trying to add some rational to your pie eyed fantasies. You're right you just got the next Corey Getzlaf or Ryan Perry and hood winked another team in the process.
 
What's mind blowing is that the same posters here who complain about our fans being way too negative and constantly complaining are now listening to some tool bringing negativity about the newest Ranger. Talk about hypocrites.

it's not negativity, it's tempering expectations and refuting a report that was inaccuarte (claiming he's physical!!!), but hey believe what you want.

I listened to him and disagreed just like I've listened to you and disagreed with some of what youve been posting lately. I fail to see the irony at all.
 
Brassard is a gamer. I don't think he is the missing piece for the Sens.. He'll be a good player for you guys playing with Hoffman, Stone, and Ryan
 
Apparently Ottawa made the deal because they are in 'win now' mode while sadly for us that mode ended for another year or two while we do a 60 % retool/youth movement. I dont see the Sens as much more potent or any kind of real cup threat after this deal with the roster they have. Probably a playoff team but this dosent move the needle all that much imo. For the Rangers it adds to the u-25 upside pool which they hopefully can mix into something good in a few years.

yeah that speculation that this is a win now mode (along with the pneuf deal) doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The Sens have made the playoffs once in the last 3 years and that was due to the phenomenon of the Hamburgler experience (kinda like Lin-sanity in NY)
it makes more sense to think they the Sens have quite a few young players (and up and coming talent too) that needs to grow but having too many young players without some leadership will cause it flounder. Maybe the Sens think Nick Paul is ready to take on a bigger role, maybe they think Z has nearly peaked (or at least as a Senator)
the other narrative is win now translates to the owner wants that playoff $ because Ottawa is a small market team.
Consensus in Ottawa (fans+media) is that this makes the Sens better now, but probably not for the long run. A lot of fans are upset at this trade too
 
Zibanajed holds the Sens record for quickest hat trick, looking at highlights video he has a great shot and can handle the puck. Brassard developed into a great player for the Rangers but has trouble controlling the puck on breaks and had to be one of the Rangers more inaccurate shooters especially with an open net. I like the deal for youth/cap space/ potential. I think there's more upside to Zibanajed.
