This has nothing to do with what you think the Blazers will do; just want to see the opinion on the fans in here. I want to see how bang for the buck each player and their contracts fare.

For example: Roy was making 13.5 mil this season, but his injuries and production fell from the waste-side. Also, he has about 68 mil still owed. I think he can justify a max MLE type contract. Something like 8-9 mil per season. 9 mil *100 / and average of 17 mil per season = 53%. So IMO, his value is roughly 53¢ to the dollar.

I am going to do the rest. Let's see what your opinions are.

Re: Trade value: Blazer players

Marcus Camby - He is making 9.2 mil next season. He has an expiring contract as well. This season, he averaged 4.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks but shot a dismal 39% from the field. I think he could warrant a 10-11 mil contract, for a contending team that needs rebounding and block shots. For that I value him at $1.19 per dollar.

LMA - some may disagree with me, but I am factoring what he is getting paid to the actual production and value on his team. LMA is still owed 45.67 mil; which is roughly and average of 11.41 mil per season. His production is one of a close to "Max type" player. So I will put him down for a 15 mil per season player. This is also factored because I expect him to be even more important next season. So my opinion is $1.31 per dollar.

Re: Trade value: Blazer players

This has a chance to be an epic thread

Re: Trade value: Blazer players

Wesley Matthews - I think he is the most "undervalued player" on this team. With what he did this season, is remarkable. To me, I would even say he is more important than Batum or Wallace, with his production to contract. He is guaranteed 26.77 mil for the next 4 years. That is an average of 6.7 mil per season. When I think of a player in that range, I expect a role player. Someone that is producing something like 8-10 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists. Something like that. Look at his season?!?!?! The dude is averaging 15.9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1.2 steals a game. That isn't a role player. That is a starter! For that type of production, I think he would warrant a 9-11 mil per season contract. $1.64 per dollar.

Miller - I think Miller is a solid PG, has only one year left on his contract and should warrant a 9 mil per season value (factoring if he was traded, the one year left adds more value). He is currently making 7.8, if the Blazers pick him up. That is a $1.15 per dollar.

Nic Batum - Probably the highest value per contract on our team. He is playing and can get starter numbers. Basically he could warrant a 8-10 mil contract. He is getting 2.5 mil per season (still on the rookie contract). His value is $4.00 per dollar. I think this is why so many people are using him as trade bate in their scenarios. He is basically 4 times worth his contract.

It really could be. It could be the difference to a fanatic that will pay hundred's of dollars for a basketball rookie card, because of their emotional attachment to a specific player. It also works for the realistic fan that values players on a "PER" bases. Basically averaging players at the same level and their contract to the current contracts and players we have.

I don't understand this post. If you're talking contract value, that's one thing. If you're talking trade value, then Miller has probably the highest value because of his still-productive play and team-option contract. Also, Batum on his current contract has probably the worst trade value on the team, in terms of what the Blazers could get for him in terms of salary + production. It's nearly impossible to find an equal-value player on a similar contract, isn't it?

Also, if you're willing to pay $10-11/season for a player with a 15.0 PER, which is Matthews, then I guess I disagree with your construct of that value.

Ahhh I see what you mean. I guess what I'm really trying to say is the actual value of a player. Just like you described, Batum only is making 2.5 mil, but could be valued as a player making 8-10 mil. I guess what I'm using is this ratio could be used in combination with an "undervalued player" to even itself out. Example: If Batum was used with Roy in a trade, it could be argued that Roy is worth 8 mil and batum is worth 10 mil. Basically giving us a 18 mil valued contract.

Re: Trade value: Blazer players

i think roy is worth 53 cents too

yeah this isnt really a "trade value" thread so far, more like a "are they over/under performing their current contracts" thread

Re: Trade value: Blazer players

I think McGee and Batum have equal trade value. I would really like to see Batum for McGee.

Re: Trade value: Blazer players

Psst Forum Mods, can you change the thread title to: "over/under performing their current contracts" like Brainiac suggested? Seems more appropriate.

Does that work?

answer = kinda?

I think that's high. (No, I didn't mean you are high. :) ) I don't think Roy earned an $8-9 mil contract last season. You can count the number of games Roy made a significant positive difference last season on one hand. For the games he made a negative difference, I'd probably have to take off my shoes.

Next season? I hate to speculate, but next season we all hope he will be worth $8-9 mil.

no offense Mags but that is nuts on Roy's value

Played to their contracts:
LMA -- worth every penny finally
Matthews -- most MLE players end up sucking and not being worth it, he's right at the sweet spot of value and production
Batum -- given that he's still on his rookie deal and plays good defense and can shoot it a little I think he's valued about right
Miller -- No Miller last year and the team just doesn't function and probably wins 25-30 games.
Wallace -- His contract mostly matches up to what he's worth
Chris Johnson -- For 300K or so, it's hard to say the Blazers could do better for a reserve shot-blocker/defender at the 4/5

Underperformed:
Camby -- being injured kind of hurt his game and his overall impact on the court, he's still valuable, but probably not worth the 11 million he was paid
Rudy -- even though he's still on a cheap rookie contract, I'm sure there were D-leaguers who could have met or exceeded what he gave us last year ... and probably with less poutiness.
Mills -- Also on a dirt cheap rookie conract, but for a guy 6'0" he sure calls his own number a lot and can barely guard a chair. Another guy I'm sure could have been replaced by a d-leaguer (ala Gary Neal, et al.)
Armon -- I'm not sure what to expect from a 33rd overall pick as a rookie, but it was more than what he gave us.

The "I'm stealing without a gun" category:
Oden, Williams, Roy and Babbitt

Maggie, you overvalued all 6 players. Good thing you don't have billions to waste on a team.

Over performed:
LMA
Batum
Wallace

Correctly performed:
Miller
Matthews

Under performed:
Camby
Rudy
Oden
Roy

Irrelevant to this franchise:
Williams
Babbitt
Armon
Mills
Chris J
