Pac-10 Big-10 merge to form super league?

But isn't that the point? Texas and A&M are saying that you don't get them without the little guys. And I guar-un-tee you the Pac-10 would rather have UT and TA&M with two little brothers than the Denver and Kansas City markets without the Texas schools.
i don't think texas and a&m have said anything like that. it's politicians in texas who either went to baylor or tech or are representing those areas who are trying to push for tech and baylor to be included along with texas and a&m.

obviously the main team the pac 10 wants is texas but i really doubt they'd have to cave and bring in baylor and/or tech to get texas. and definitely not if nebraska and missouri really leave for the big 10.

they should play for it like Ga Tech and Va Tech do in the ACC - the winner is "Tech" for a year

ESPN was just discussing this
if the TX politicians get their way BU will replace CU and Colorado would end up with CSU in the Mountain West along with KU and KSU

I'd say that Oregon State University is 3rd on the list of "real".

Well, except that Ohio State is really TOSU rather than OSU.

Another update, this one from Omaha.com:

An executive at a Big 12 school relayed to The World-Herald on Tuesday that he expects Nebraska to become a member of the Big Ten as early as Friday. ... Sources at two other Big 12 schools told The World-Herald that their athletic directors have instructed them to be ready by week's end for a briefing on probable Big 12 changes. Nebraska A.D. Tom Osborne offered implicit confirmation Tuesday night that the timetable on national conference realignment has been accelerated.

As a reminder, it's speculated that if Nebraska goes to the Big Ten, the Big XII South schools (possibly including Colorado, possibly minus Baylor) will likely accept an offer to join the Pac-10.

Also, ESPN asked fans what the new Pac-10/Big XII South Conference should be named. This one was my favorite:

2. The Wild West Conference

Alumni like to call Ohio State "THE Ohio State University."

Yeah, it's annoying stuff. It's actually more than just how they refer to themselves -- it's the official name. I've done a couple contracts with Ohio State and it's part of the official name of their institution. Squirrelly as all get out, but there you have it.

Also, Bob Stoops actually likes the idea:

"It's kind of exciting to me, what the possibilities are for our program,” Stoops said. "What actually it will be, I don't know. In the end, it'll be positive.” ... "(The Big 12) has been great for us. We have been in a good number of Big 12 championship games and won a number of times. Obviously, it's been good for us,” Stoops said. "But the more people are talking about (the Pac-10), the more people are thinking, 'That's exciting. That's pretty cool. That has a chance to be special.' It's win/win. Best of everything.”

...

"When I first heard it, I thought it was exciting. Thought, that has a chance to be pretty good, by bringing the West Coast recruiting into play,” Stoops said. "For us, especially to play down in Texas, has always been positive. I think that has a chance to be the best of everything, a good number of games we have in the South and then out West. It brings everything out West into play, particularly California.”

I like this $ wise, but I dont think this would bode well for UO and OSU competition wise.

Maybe they could join the NIT? They would dominate those bitches.

UO and OSU would both benefit from enhanced recruiting in the south, as well as gaining more money from the tv deal. If nothing else, it would help them competition wise. You would probably have at least 2 teams from the conference play in a BSC bowl every year.

Yeah but I could also see them losing alot of the California kids to the Texas' and Oklahoma's of the world.

Colorado Board of Regents have accepted the invitation to the Pac Ten
sorry BU they have trumped you

I think this is great for my Beavs. This will make us one of the programs in the most elite college conference in the nation. The Pac16 will get much more respect and national exposure due to the Texas schools.

What if we had been left out like Kansas or Kansas state? They might have to join freaking conference USA could you imagine if OSU instead of being in the super pac16 had to join the WAC?

Could still add Baylor. Just need to merge the two OSUs. Orehoma State? Or Oklagon State?

If you combined Washington State, Oklahoma State and Oregon State...and got a bit creative...you'd have "W-ho-re" State University. The Screamin' Hookers, if you like. Getting paid to play would be part of the deal.
