The Pacific-10 Conference will extend an invitation to the University of Utah to become the league's 12th team, Comcast SportsNet has learned exclusively from sources close to the situation.

A press conference is expected to formalize the announcement on Thursday.

Utah is currently a member of the Mountain West Conference. The Utes went 10-3 overall and 6-2 in conference last season and went on to beat Cal in the Poinsettia Bowl 37-27.

OK, we add Colorado and Utah and have a PAC-10 or 12 championship game just like the other conferences to cheat the BCS system.

Fine.

you know I have to say, OSUblazerfan, why do you have your avatar as a traitorous but attractive lady.

I still hope that somehow Larry boy can fuck the Big 12 (10)Texas Tech still hasn't signed off on the new tv deal that will make 3 teams a lot of money, and the rest a little money. I wonder if there is any way to sweeten the pot with them and throw a monkey wrench into the big 12 plans.

My evil master plan would be to add Texas Tech, Houston, Missouri and UNLV. That picks ou up the Houston (8), St Louis (21) KC (31) and Vegas tv markets

Having UNLV in the Pac-10 would be hilarious.

They are actually a decent research university, but you could easily replace them with someone else. If Cal pulled it's head out of it's ass and oked it, you could sub BYU instead

that's going to happen about the same time as California legalizes polygamy.

Obviously I would of rather had Texas, Oklahoma, etc join the Pac 10... but I'm happy they are expanding to 12 with Colorado and Utah. I'd be fine with us also adding BYU and UNLV.

I knew, and posted, those teams were not joining the PAC-10. It made no sense at all and added an extra roadblock to getting to the BCS sham title game.

So now we will have two 6 team divisions and not play everyone in our conference...

Great so instead of getting USC/UCLA/CAL every other year at Reser we will get them ever fourth year and instead have a Utah/Colorado every other year to go along with a title game in a different city.

This has been the worst 5 days in the history of OSU football.

^^
Where has it been reported that they'd break it up into two 6 team divisions?
I think and hope they'll leave it the way it is and teams wont play as many non-conference games.

They have to break it up into two 6-team divisions. One non conference game is out of the question.

Agreed. This is why I was never in favor of the idea of expansion. Teams lose valuable conference games and it creates a mess.

Fuck, people!!!!!!

It's time to move forward. Stop whining about not being able to get the southern Cal schools in your stadium each year, and start getting excited about the extra money and prestige that a conference championship game will bring.

Plus, I am the real loser in all of this. Living in Houston I don't get to watch many PAC 10 games because the big 12 always bumps them on ABC. I had a chance to get them all if this merger had worked.

I am very anxious to see what sort of divisions they come up with. Reportedly, Colorado was guaranteed a spot in the same division as the So Cal schools.

I think losing the yearly games in So Cal will hurt recuiting a bit, so I hope they can come up with a plan to fix that, and even it out a bit.

Here is my proposal.

Division 1

Oregon
Wash
Cal
UCLA
Arizona
Utah

Division 2

Ore St
Wash St
Stan
USC
Arizona St
Col

Play each team in your division once, and your in state rival once. Then 2 more schools from the other division and 3 non conference games. That way Oregon gets to play Wash and Ore ST each year, and so on for the other schools

I dont understand why the Pac 10 would guarantee Colorado anything. They should be happy they where asked to even join.

Schools would have to be in the same division as their in-state rival. If Colorado was somehow guaranteed to be with the Cali schools then it would be the NW plus Arizona. I just assumed they would pair Cali up with AZ/ASU.

I'll be shocked if the divisions are anything but the following:

Division 1
Oregon
Ore St
Wash
Wash St
Col
Utah

Division 2
Cal
Stan
UCLA
USC
Arizona
Arizona St
