I still think Apple and their interest in a percentage of ESPN could be a wild card. Tomorrow I expect Oregon & Others to sign the GoR's. Long live the Pac!

Oregon has already been in the national title game twice as a member of the Pac 10/Pac 12.

If you believe recruits will turn down Oregon to go to a B1G , big-money school like Indiana, then you have a case. I don't believe a potential player will go to Indiana or Minnesota over Oregon because those schools have a better TV deal.

I think you're grossly under-estimating how much has changed since Oregon made the NCG. The conference is far weaker, the revenue gap between the P12 and Big10/SEC is far more significant, and that lack of resources from a conference level would certainly hurt Oregon if they are trying to compete to win a national championship. The SEC/BigTen have made up 75% of the top 10 recruiting classes the last couple season.

Don't confuse superior revenue guaranteeing a programs ability to compete for national championships with teams from smaller revenuing generating conferences from being at a server disadvantage. It's kinda like people aruging that Blazers could win a championship with two really small guards vs the people saying it may be possible, but it's a far more difficicult path. Why take the more difficult path? Why use Uncle Phil to fund the revenue gap vs using Uncle Phil to create seperation?

I'm a little surprised that we haven't heard anything about UO meeting.

The UW people are meeting in like 20 minutes.

"The Big Ten is discussing membership with Oregon and Washington, two people with direct knowledge of those talks told the AP.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity because no formal offer has been extended to the schools. But the framework of a deal was presented that would have the Ducks and Huskies enter the conference with an annual payout in the low-to-mid $30 millions.

The schools could also receive an advance on future payments that could increase the total payout to more than $40 million for the first several years they are in the conference, though it would be subtracted from future payouts, two people said.

That payout would be about half what current Big Ten members will receive when all its new television deals fully kick in next year, but still more than what Washington and Oregon are guaranteed to receive from a recently presented potential media rights deal the Pac-12 has on the table from Apple.

Southern California and UCLA are headed to the Big Ten next year, the same time Colorado is leaving the West Coast’s largest and most storied conference for the Big 12.

That leaves the Pac-12 with nine schools — for now — and no media rights deal beyond the upcoming school year. None of the other remaining schools have scheduled regent or trustee meetings — yet."

I thought there was always an understanding that he wanted the Ducks in the B1G.

I was told that while PK is sad to see the PAC die (and it's in a deep coma right now about to be taken off life support), he believes the long term survival of the UofO athletic programs depends on getting into the BIG.

and it's a myth that a PAC winner would get an automatic bid to the playoffs. There is no provision for that in the 12-team playoff format. It would only be for P5 conferences and the P5 is about to become the P4

If Oregon goes down the tubes as a member of the B1G, nobody will give a shit, other than Oregon fans.

No conference has an automatic bid to the playoffs in the current format.

same if they "go down the tubes" in the PAC or Big-12

you're beating a useless drum. If Arizona, ASU, and Utah join Colorado in the Big-12, and it's looking more and more like they will, then half of the teams in the conference have left because they can read numbers and perform math

why the fuck would Oregon remain in the Pac-6 if the BIG will have them?

right...and it doesn't change in the 12 team playoff. Look for the Big-10 and the SEC to regularly combine for 8 teams in the playoffs; maybe even 9

I have to wonder how the Pac-?? deal with AppleTv--and Oregon's share thereof--is affected by the 4-corner schools' defection. If UO/UW chose to remain as anchors to the conference, could they demand a larger share, large enough to justify declining the B1G's invite?

I believe the top 5 conferences receive an automatic bid, so technically it is possible for 9 Big10/SEC teams to make it. Even if Oregon was in the Big10, I would hate that scenario. I'd prefer no more than 3 teams from any conference be in the playoffs. But they didn't ask for my opinion!

No. If Arizona, ASU, and Utah leave, that would mean only 6 schools would be left in the conference. Even if the P12 replaced those schools with the biggest markets possible (SDSU, Rice, SMU, Tulane) the overall deal would probably go down. And the Big10 revenue for Oregon will go up significantly this decade while that is unlikely in an Apple deal.

I don't think this is even a difficult decision at this point.

It’s not worth it. Worrying about the immediate payouts is short sighted and foolish. This is about long term options and money.

If those schools leave there is no choice.
