A good reminder of how poor John McCain's judgment is.

In a way, I think this just killed her chances in 2012. Not that she had any, but it killed it. Did she not understand that this wasn't the head of the PTA she was vying for?

She has an excellent point.

How would you feel if your kids were insulted on SNL after Obama said that families were off limits?

I failed to pick up on that double standard until she mentioned it.

Obama isn't in charge of SNL. He doesn't get to decide what they can and can't make fun of.

I think it's awesome that you think Obama decides what sketches they do on SNL.

I'm sure they'd have made fun of Obama's family as well if they'd complied with something along the lines of unwed teenage pregnancy material... I don't watch SNL much but I'm guessing they had a Rev. Wright sketch or two. From the kid's odd names to the unethical firing of your sister's ex-husband the Alaskan Palins added some comedic garnish to her train wreck of a campaign.

I enjoyed some laughs watching this. She's a treasure

Oh what a blast...that was soo scary....:devilwink:

Lets put it this way. If you set yourself up for failure, you probably will. So I do not know what she was expecting.

Yah, because no one on the right made fun of Chelsea Clinton.

Love how people put words in my mouth.

My point is there is one set of rules for Obama's family, and another set of rules for Palin's.

I don't condone it for Chelsea Clinton at all. It's distasteful. It's one thing to go after somebody who puts them self out there, it's another to attack someone who was bought into this not by choice.

Then you have no point, because that's not true.

No, I'm pretty sure I'm right on about this.

Barack said Michelle and his family were off limits, the media respected that. Yet the media has become absolutely obsessed with Bristol Palin's pregnancy, like it's any of their business. Stories about Bristol's future mother in law being arrested, etc.

The girl was pregnant before Sarah was thrust into the national spotlight, and was dragged into the spotlight by her mother's candidacy. Leave her the fuck alone, or at least give her credit for not getting an abortion and having a baby as a teenager, it requires dedication and it's difficult for anyone, let alone someone younger than I am.

Beautiful, Shuster asks a question, interrupts his guest and shows his true colors, that he's biased and ignorant. Obviously he can't tell the difference between a real assassination and character assassination.

Shuster is interjecting his opinion, not "everyone's opinion." Polling does not indicate that "everyone" agrees with the statement that Palin was not qualified. Ziegler showed his overall superiority to Shuster in this clip.

I don't understand. What did she say that killed her chances? She is irritated because the media made such a huge deal about her child.

Attack a candidates stances on issues, not their family.

I don't think that's the way it happened. If Obama had Palin's family, you can bet that they would have been campaign topic #1, no matter what Obama wanted. The fact is, Obama's family isn't an issue because his family isn't the Beverly Hillbillies. Everyone wants to see Elly May go swimming in the ce-ment pond.

Well, I think some idiot might try to paint Obama's daughter having a baby as the face of the problem of teenage pregnancy, much like some have tried to paint Bristol as that face.

At the same time, I can't help but think she wouldn't have had to gone through the jokes and the ridicule, or the disgusting rumors about her pregnancy.

Some big fat idiot, perhaps? Yeah, if the situation was that Michelle Obama was running for office, spent a lot of time and energy on her career, and her husband was often away from home, and she had a pregnant teenage daughter, I suspect the "family values" crowd would be all over that.

I don't know if they would have Barfo. The entertainment industry is infamously left.

Not really.

Just the more intelligent ones.

Why do you always have to make comments like that Maris? It's that elitest attitude that makes me dislike liberals, and I'm not even a Republican.

It's Palin's own party that really made the train wreck of her pregnant daughter a national issue. When your party runs for 30 years on issues like "traditional family values," "personal responsibility" and "abstinence-only", it's pretty hard to make a claim that Palin's daughter having a baby at 17 is somehow off-limits.

If what you're selling doesn't even work for your own family, why should the rest of America buy it?

Yeah, but come on Mook. Not every Republican is "morally conservative". I recently went back to school to finish up my degree and I took a history course on early American politics. I wish the Republican party would get back to its roots. Shoot.... I wish the Democratic party would get back to its roots. They used to stand for states rights and less Federal spending and control back when they were the Democratic Republicans. Thomas Jefferson would be rolling over in his grave if he saw what our current political system was mired in.

bassackwards

Since the ilk of people who find SNL funny were Obama's ATM machine for the election (and free negative PR for republican candidates), they're going to expect to be able to influence policy.

not to mention that SP was getting her baby into every photo op possible like I've never seen a candidate do with their child. If she wanted her kids to be off limits, then maybe she should have taken a more conservative approach.

break out the tiny violins. You aren't going to convince many that Rush, Bill and the hoards of right wing talk show hosts would have taken the high road... you do remember O'Rielly on Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy a month earlier right?

By being on a website thats implying that Obama only won because of the media.

They probably have a case. I've never seen a candidate receive so much love and adulation before they've even set foot in office. They're selling commemorative Obama coins for pete's sake. Commemorative of WHAT??? What has he done? Obama might end up a good President, I'm not saying he won't, but let the guy work before you decide he's a great President. Some people sound like they would already start chiseling his face on Mt. Rushmore.

I think the media is capitalizing on Obama being extremely popular among tons of people, as opposed to creating the popularity.

Yes, but how did he become extremely popular Minstrel? Most people my age or younger don't read newspapers. They don't watch the news. They can scarcely point to England on a map. Obama is extremely popular with my generation... why? They certainly didn't hear about him on NPR.

Seems like you are arguing against yourself - first you say Obama is a creation of the media, and now you say that your peeps don't pay attention to the media and they love Obama.
