Flores, Merrick lead Panama Claro Championship

John Merrick and Martin Flores kicked off the 2016 Web.com Tour season with 5-under 65s to take a share of the clubhouse lead at the Panama Claro Championship.

Tour officials halted first-round play due to darkness at 6:35 p.m. and will resume the first round at 7:35 a.m. on Friday.

John Merrick: Merrick shares 18-hole lead at Panama Claro

John Merrick spun a bogey-free 5-under-par 32-33=65 in the opening round of the Panama Claro Championship to share the 18-hole lead with Martin Flores.

Merrick's lap around Panama GC featured five birdies and 13 pars. Statistical information is not available for the event, but it is clear that the PGA TOUR veteran is off to a promising start in the opening Web.com Tour event of the 2016 season.

Ryan Armour wins Web.com Tour opener in Panama

Ryan Armour won the Web.com Tour's season-openingPanama Claro Championship on Sunday for his first victory in 217 career starts.

The 39-year-old former Ohio State player closed with a 6-under 64 in hot and windy conditions for a three-stroke victory over Kyle Thompson. Armour finished at 12-under 268 at Panama Golf Club and earned $112,500.
