Ever since I got a job which was like 3 years ago, I've been trying to kind of get away from asking my parents for money. I think I've been almost totally independent of my parents finances for two years now - coming on three. I paid for my carI got my college covered with scholarships I pay gas, insurance, and all the car expensesI buy my clothesfoodThe only thing I haven't bought was my laptop - but Im planning on paying my dad back.I personally like this way a lot better than asking my parents for money - I rarely do it - but occasionally I have to borrow like 5 bucks and I absolutely hate it. How long have you been 'independent' from your parents financially - and if not do you plan to?

Soon Im going to become a certified Hockey ref, and I am a caddy get some money there. But I plan to definately be independant, I bought my own computer though :winkglasses:

I admit, I'm at that age where I need to break away and take care of myself. My parents pay everything for me. I rarely buy anything on my own. They even make my car payments for me.I am going to leech off of them until I save up and move out on my own, I want to have enough money to put a hefty down payment on a house. Once, I do that I don't think I am going to ask my parents for much anymore.

my parents bought me a car as a birthday/christmas/college present but thats it. im paying for most or all of my college and its like 40 friggin grand a year or some sh*t

ROTF @ Tonys post. Paying for college from my parents is enough. Then adding the basic stuff...gas, food, ect. So I try and help out as much as a I can. Which seems to be about 98% of my working money. Btw, never do student loans in college

Up until May of last year I was totally independant, but my mom got sick so I had to cut down on my work hours to help her out. I'm still pretty much independant, but I do live in her basement scott free. I'm pretty good at keeping my finanaces in check, so becoming financially independant was easy for me. I try to keep my bills small and I don't get anything unnesscary. My truck I bought from my dad, my schooling is on scolarships, I didn't have a cellphone until last May, and since my truck is old my insurance is low.

I wish I could be independent. I'm 15, no job, no income=everything comes from my parents. I can't be independent right now, I have to wait until I'm older

I have had a full-time job since I was 17 and since then my parents have only given my money for school.

Yeah I dont ask for money. I just hate sayin mom I need money...... IF I ask for money its for like the train or something thats it

My Dad doesn't pay for sh*t for me, except when I work for him and that's perfectly reasonable pay. So I guess I am right now, except for the fact that I still live under his roof lol

I wanted to job a few months ago.. ALMOST got one.. but my parents didnt want me to get one because it would "effect my schoolwork" and all of that. I'ma try to find one during the summer.

as soon as I can get a job I want to do that I already made a plan for it and everything.

I don't get any money :dunno: Theres nothing to pay for really... I'm on a full ride at michigan, I have a full-time job that paysa for everything..

No, I'm actually 690.. Yeah, I am. Its not technicaly a full ride, I lied when I said they don't help. They pay about 1.5k a year for me to come here.

Well that's still not bad, and I wish I was 21

Stupid f*cking drinking laws, I should move back to England.

Well it's not exactly close to where I live now, and mostt of my family lives across the Atlantic, so that would make more sense. Plus I don't like beaners

go to mexico, all the beaners are in southern cal.... mexico is basically made up of american tourists anyway..

But it's almost equal distance to England, where I can go crash with my Mom, sisters, brothers, and get free booze :beerchug:

Yeah, don't take offense to this, because it really doesn't apply to you, Reppin. But I really hated when these high schoolers would talk about how they bought all this sh*t with their own money. "Dude, I bought all these DVD's and this stereo and so on with my OWN MONEY." They would act like they literally came from nothing to working fulltime and being such a gift to the world that they needed to be rewarded.Basically, it pissed me off that these retards seriously don't understand that without their parents, they wouldn't be able to do any of that. They drive to their jobs in their parents' slick BMW to work doing probably next to nothing because their parents set them up with a job. Then they go to Best Buy or some other shithole and spend their FULLY DISPOSIBLE income on whatever they want, then act all self-important.Anyway, I think becoming independent is a very respectable thing. Parents are pretty important, and you should be able to depend on them throughout your life, but money is one thing that really makes most college kids completely useless. I cannot stand these sorority girls that go home every weekend to see daddy because they almost literally have no friends in college and depend on their parents so much.I am freaking angsty, huh.
