Ewing Jr. gets cut

The KnicksNew York Knicks announced today that fan favorite Patrick Ewing Jr. will be the final cut from their roster.

Team president Donnie Walsh decided to instead keep shooting guard Anthony Roberson, who signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Knicks during the Las Vegas Summer League in July.

The Knicks were heavily leaning toward cutting Ewing before Friday night's preseason finale, but the decision became more difficult after Ewing lit up the Garden with an electrifying 9-minute stint in the fourth quarter, when he executed two monster dunks and sank a 3-pointer against the NetsNew Jersey Nets . The fans chanted his name in the final minutes.

Ewing practiced with the team today and said before he met with Walsh, "I'm getting ready for Miami (the season opener Wednesday)."

Ewing said if he did get cut he would consider playing in Europe or in the Developmental League.

Go get him Kiki ! hurry ! hurry ! :ohno:

Would be nice to pick him up if we had the room. He's a true small forward and we aren't developing anyone at that position, but it's hard to justify eating Ager's deal based on one game.

The Pacers need to scoop him up ASAP. I know we have plenty of swing men but he sure has more potential than Joey Graham. Someone has to give the guy a roster spot. With all that athleticism and a little teaching he could atleast be a decent future bench guy that brings some good energy for 15-20 MPG.

Dump some of the crap on this team and get him. With some time, experience and knowledge, he will become a great bench player and do what a Najera does by the time Najera is out of here; if not sooner. He is a team-first player, he will rebound, block shots, get oops, enforce, and will hustle his damn ass off every day(in games and practice). He will provide energy and guts and that is more than can be said about most 'bench' players in this league.
Someone please start the GET EWING campaign, before anyone gets a hold of the tape from the last 8 minutes from the other night. He is half the reason that team made a real run at us.

He's not very good. Didn't see him play any good defense. If we get him, he'll be in the pile of young projects.

I'll rank Ewing Jr, slightly under DJ Stawberry. But, I still feel the roster is too young, by the time they'll get good, their contract would be up.

WHY would kiki get him?? Hes not even good. He had one good game the whole preseason and everyone is going crazy and the nets dont need him at all

Just because the Knicks are stupid doesn't mean everyone else has to be, he has a 42" verticle, Marion-like qualities on the floor. Dammit he's better than anything the Nets have at bench for energy not counting CDR and has a great work ethic, in time he will be like a Matt Barnes was for Golden State.

All im trying to say is that i would like to see him play more and see what he can do in a nightly basis before getting him on the nets

By then it is too late.

I understand where you are coming from, but remember D'antoni need to do a lot this preseason. First, he has to make this team work. So the preseason was all about that. Second, the knicks are stock piled with SF/PF. Jeffries, Q, Chandler, Lee, and there could be more hiding under the bench. Third, Ewing was some kind of dump. Dont remember who they traded to get him. So they didnt really know what they were getting.

I wouldnt mind getting him because after watching that game, the kid has something. I dont know what it is but I want that on my team.

9 minutes of end of exhibition game play is just not enough time to make a judgement on Junior's talents nor future expectations..

ya... ewing jr. isnt that great... i understand the hype... with his pedigree and all... but this is like nothing like the mannings... is this like the greises... hehe with brians father being a legend ^^

OMG Ager is not that good. Go for it ThronKikNer, Yeesh! If nothing more than to get Ewing Sr. to be a big man coach down the road. If nothing more than to steal Knick loyals when you move to Brooklyn, if nothing more than to have a tradeable player down the road.

Lots of guys have 42" verticals. Doesn't make them good basketball players.

Jr. is OK from what I saw, but the Nets really don't need to add any more young prospects right now. The young guys started bonding in training camp, got to know each other and are ready for a long season ahead. Why throw in another player who'll threaten their minutes with no real reason?

Hassan Adams was a great energy and hustle guy too and look how he turned out.

I doubt Hassan had Ewing Jr's pedigree, again he is raw but already is as hard a worker as his dad, he gets his jumpshot figured out he can be a steal. We might as well dump the useless contracts for example Ager.

ewing's lucky to have been in the league. if it weren't for his last name, he may not have made it out of the summer league, if that.

If he is such a hard worker, then why doesn't he have a jumpshot?

I think he's horrible but I'd still rather him over Ager. Least he's had marketing potential.

"Father runs New York and son runs Brooklyn."

If you look at the reasoning for picking up Ewing, then I'd guess these people would use their same lines of logic to support that Stromile and Sean should be our starting bigs.

hmmmm.....

Actually you are right about Sean, but way off about Swift.

Swift has shown he has no interest in being in the NBA. For me, Swift is only here to collect a check. The only reason Swift is still on the team because Thorn may need him for a trade. Besides that he is a waste.

Pat Ewing Jr was drafted in the second round at 43. Three spots after CDR. Are you a fan of CDR? I would say you are with a picture of CDR sticking his tongue out. Who knows why CDR slipped! Yeah CDR was a better college player then Ewing, but I liked what I saw in the few minutes he played in that game.

So since you mentioned Swift, why not want someone that in 9 minutes showed he wanted to be in the NBA as opposed to a first round #2 pick masquerading as a NBA player for years.

Stick to the one word answers and one liners, That is more of your strong suit.

I watched Ewing Jr. in College steadily. He sacrificed the development of his individual game for a team concept. There have been a few guys who didn't have much of a shot, but were athletic and defensive minded enough to get attention(see Richard Jefferson). Ewing is definitely more of a second round version of that kind of ball, but with the opportunity to develop some pro 'angles' and continue to bring what he already brings, I'd rather Ewing taken up the 13th-15th area of the Roster than some of the other jokers who have bounced around this league for years and produced next to nothing.
Kid has dedication, work ethic, a price-less guide/coach/father, hustle, crazy ups, tenacity, and yes, even some skill....give 'em a damn job already.

I'm glad you said because coming from me it would have been propping him, he first was in IU then transfered to GT it was there that John Thompson III asked him to sacrifice his game and be an example to the system, Ewing Jr. was a hard worker had as good as a jump shot but Thompson got him to believe in a system he not only did that but also was the spark plug to the Hoya D and fastbreak. The kid can shoot, if you were at MSG watching shoot around he can shoot but in a game he does what he's told and doesn't bicker also acts like a leader. Teammates watch him play offensively they know he can shoot but seeing him and his hard work ethic would put half the pros in this game to shame lets put it like this Doc Rivers after the Celtics game went to hug one Knick and talked to him for a few mins. it was Ewing Jr. he even called KG over to speak w/ him on the court after a Knicks exhibition game.

LOL I brought those names up as a comparison to the people who were jerking off to Pat Ewing Jr because he could jump high. Obviously if you use that same method of valuing someone like Swift it falls apart. Therefore, people shouldn't get head over heels about a guy who's just an athlete.

Hey networks I know that you're not very good at discussing basketball, but you should really really try to understand someone's post before you try to insult them, else you risk falling on your face and looking like a fool.

I won't even get into why you brought up CDR, that's just silly.

Yeah, but swift clearly has motivation issues. Where Ewing clearly has a competitive nature. The other thing with your comparison is that there were more expectations with Swift and he hasnt lived to them. Ewing is a player with lower expections with the potential to be good.

Yeah but when you use words like "these people", you should expect it. Clearly in your last post towards me, you put me in that group of "these people" and now I know. Thanks for your vote of confidence. I will cherish it.
