Re: Mills breaks foot!

A rough summer for Patty so far.. he won't be able to walk.

Re: Mills breaks foot!

Tough news for the kid. He won't make the team now.

Re: Mills breaks foot!

Humans just weren't made to carry that much weight. At almost six feet tall, his body has literally been stretched beyond the limits of what humans can be. This sort of injury is sad but one that we all should have seen coming when we're talking about such a giant.

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland Trail Blazers draft pick Patty Mills broke his right foot during practice and won't play in the NBA's Summer League.

The Blazers said Friday that Mills fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during practice Thursday night. A timetable for the point guard's return has not been determined.

Mills was scheduled to see a specialist on Friday.

"You never want to see a player get injured, but it is especially heart wrenching to see a young man go down on his first day of camp," Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard said. "We'll do everything we can to help Patty get back on track to realize his NBA future."

After starring for Australia in the Beijing Olympics and for Saint Mary's in college, Mills was selected by the Blazers with the 55th overall pick in the NBA draft last month.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Mills averaged career highs of 18.7 points, 4.0 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals during his sophomore season with the Gaels before deciding to turn pro.

Thursday was Portland's first day of practice for the summer league, which starts Friday in Las Vegas. The Blazers open play Monday against Toronto.

The Blazers' roster for the summer league includes second-year guard Jerryd Bayless and draft picks Jeff Pendergraph and Dante Cunningham.

Re: Blazers draft pick Mills breaks foot

Hi, I'm two days ago, have we met?

Re: Blazers draft pick Mills breaks foot

This is his fourth foot he's broken! haha ;)

Re: Blazers draft pick Mills breaks foot

I'm just bustin' your chops. No harm done.

Question: was he signed to a Blazers' contract that gave him insurance at the time? And whether or not he was, are the Blazers paying for the surgery? There has to be some kind of system for when Summer League players get injured on the job.

As I said earlier, I actually think this means he WILL make the team, partly because it's much less likely he can get a job elsewhere. (A bit like how Batum made the team over Koponen, even though Koponen was more impressive in Summer League, because Batum refused to go to Europe.)
