Anyone following this?

Apparently she's being sued for racial discrimination. In a deposition, she admitted to using the N word, but says she last used it to describe a bank robber, and it was in the 1980s.

The few stories I've found online have comments sections and the comments are almost all in her favor. I haven't actually seen one against her. The Food Network announced they aren't renewing her contract.

Some of the comments I saw said that people who knew her (posters) and that she's a super nice and gracious person off screen.

Obviously, the racial slurs are hard to forgive. But should we forgive her?

I heard she was fired for how flippant and insincere she was in the first video apology she released today. She quickly released a second one but by that time it was too late.

But it's not like she hasn't been caught for being a dipshit before.

She has the best cooking show on the Food Network because of her deep Southern accent and mannerisms. She has about 3 programs there and leads the network in ratings, I think. I think she's sexy.

Apparently, intel doesn't want regional accents anymore. You never hear them on TV, as before the 80s. To unify Americans into a patriotic conformist whole, we are African-American, Japanese-American, Native-American, etc.

Articles say that a fired manager in the 2 restaurants she owns is suing her for racial discrimination and sexual harrassment. She testifed that she has used the word long ago (she's 60, in the South) but not to the employee. Later she said she does not condone use of the word. After searching, I found one article which would give any details.

The lawsuit alleges that, while discussing with Jackson plans for Hiers' 2007 wedding, Deen said she wanted a "true southern plantation-style wedding." She went on to say in the lawsuit, she would like to see "n-word" wear long-sleeve white shirts, black shorts and black bow ties. You know in the Shirley Temple days, they used to tap dance around," Deen said, according to the lawsuit.

She didn't say anything Kanye West, Dr Dre, Mo Def and many others say/sing every day.

Only dif is she got fired for it and they got fame and riches for it.

Racism, PC-style.

I also like Irish accents.

I hope Food Network brings her back. She could make public statements for a year on how she opposes present-day use of the word.

Edit: They should have had her say that in places like the Today Show, and never fired her.

She was suppose to be on the Today Show this morning and didn't bother to show up.

I must be psychic. Or, I read an article or two.

Food Network just lost its ratings edge. Reminds me of when the early MSNBC was trying to out-conservative Fox, so they cancelled their ratings leader, Phil Donahue, for openly opposing the Iraq war on his talk show.

The Food Network has parted ways with Deen.

In response, she has quickly stated:

SAVANNAH (AP)

"While I am certainly saddened that The Food Network has made their decision to relieve me of my duties, it is very important to note that, while to err is human and to forgive is divine....to actually confess, repent, then boldly move forward is sublime!

"I'm making it unequivocally clear that I have come much too far in this industry than to let a, albeit crucial, mistake and setback such as this to destroy all that I have professionally worked very hard to build and sustain."

"Therefore, I boldly and proudly stand before you today and wish to state that I will immediately be looking to establish a brand new cooking show on another network, and - get this, y'all - seeking out a highly qualified African-American to join me as a partner-in-crime and fellow co-host!"

"Not only will I work very hard to shed, and heal from, some of the southern cultural stereotypes and behaviors that I have grown up with....even taken part in, my new partner and I will actively look towards, not only creating some delectable culinary masterpieces, but also striving to bring much needed cultural healing and unity through the medium of our show! Periodically, we will even invite special guests as to join us in our many endeavors. It's going to be a beautiful thing and not to be missed!"

"Paula Deen refuses to slink back from controversy! Never has, never will! And that's a southern fact! Y'all stay tuned!"

Now there is a video out where she talks about how her great great grandfather was so upset after giving up his 30 slaves at the end of the Civil War he committed suicide. Then she compares her "black friend" to the black curtain behind her, saying he's so black he would just blend in with the curtain.

I love Paula. She means well.
