Pek for Batum

correct, we say no

It's an interesting offer. Both bring things to the game that would be positive for Portland, however I'm not sure if either team would do the trade.

Who would Minnesota plug in at the 5 spot?

Didn't Minne sign Batum to an offer sheet?

If so, this deal is moot - it cannot happen (for three more years).

If they wanted Pek, i'd rather they just offered him too much money in the summer over giving anything up for him.

We don't want Pek (well I shouldn't say that but I doubt he is in POR's top 3 for wish list at Center due to a few things like being restricted, will take MAX, doesn't defend much better than Hickson, etc.).

I say hell no. Pekovic is a shitty defensive player

Misconception. He's actually pretty solid in every aspect and very good at defending without fouling. He does the most with his lack of leaping ability, length, or agility. He does have trouble with guys who can hit a mid range jumper.

It's his age and durability that has me concerned

His tattoo rules, though, as does your altered version, lol...

I would not trade Nic for him, but I would sign him for 10 million. He certainly is no shot blocker, but he is a space eater down low. He can't guard the centers who play away from the basket, but he does not get pushed around down low. Kind of reminds me of Duckworth.

i bet Minnie signs him for 11 million.

Shitty was probably an over statement. I don't believe he would be a good fit for our team. If the Blazers want him, they don't need to trade Batum to get him though

Here he ranks 39. Not great at all for a center

someone is gonna throw at least 13 million at him, I would be comfortable giving him up to 12 mil. After that it gets dicey due to injury history and lack of any further development besides his passing.

mozgov and a draft pick probably (len/zeller or dieng/withey/gobert later on)

Pek maybe a good one on one defender; but his help d is suspect. That's what we need the most. Our pick and roll defense is just horrible. I could only imagine how shitty it would be with an even slower center.

FYI

Jon Krawczynski ‏@APkrawczynski
Nikola Pekovic is the Western Conference player of the week. 25.0 ppg, 8.5 rpg. Wolves went 3-1.

I like Pekovic a lot. He's old-school. A big lug who can't jump but can push anyone around and has surprising touch. It's a study in contrasts with him and Batum: Batum naturally gifted, seems to glide a bit too much. Pekovic gifted in nothing but size puts in the effort, and would never be in the same sentence as the word "glide" (used, rather than mentioned, so this doesn't count).
They're probably of comparable value in the abstract, but neither team is good enough to give up theirs just for the other. Plus we already have a guy playing C who can score efficiently and vacuum up rebounds but block no shots and defend no rim. We need a shot-blocker or at least a good help defender.

Check out a comparison of Hickson's and Pek's stats.

(That's not to say that I wouldn't prefer Pek over Hickson because
(a) stats don't measure everything
(b) I doubt Chris Kaman gets his season high against Pek
(c) Pekovic is an actual legit C,
but it's interesting nonetheless.)
