Pelicans pick watch

With the Knicks win, we'll have to pay attention to the results of the Pelicans game tonight. If they lose they are in the 11th spot in the lotto (barring the devastation that would be them getting into the playoffs) while if they lose, there will be a tie breaker drawing a few days after the play in tourney is over... I think it was on the first day of the playoffs last season it was on May 25th which was like three or four days into the playoffs.

Oh boy I just can’t stand the excitement!
Just kidding. Thanks.

Murray back on the floor tonight for Spurs. Not much of a game for him but it's good to see him getting some play before they go against Pels in playin game.

CJ only played 6 minutes thru 3 quarters. Did he get hurt or are the Pels just resting him?

ESPN recap says he was given the rest of the night off. Weird that they played him at all if they were going to pull him that early after having the lead. Like they changed their minds about the importance of the game.

So right now if and hopefully when the Pelicans miss the playoffs they will be slotted 11th for the lotto. As long as they don't get really lucky (they only have a 9.4% chance of getting a top 4 pick) or one of the other three teams behind them does, we'll have the eleventh pick. That is, unless the Spurs win two play in games and in that case we the Pels are in the tenth spot for the lotto and we get the tenth pick if they don't get lucky.

We are slotted for picks 6 and 11 right now. Last time we had two lotto picks we had…..6 and 11.
Lot of symmetry in our situation when you dig a bit. Last time we won the #1 pick in the lotto, we started off at the 6th slot.

Popovich is already getting into their heads.
"Popovich is doing what? Hmm. Let's do that too."

yeah, it doesn't make any sense. They were already locked into a home play-in game against the Spurs

the only reason I can think of: about the time CJ was pulled in the 1st Q, it was official that the Wizards lost and that meant, no matter what, the Wizards would be ahead of the Pels in the lottery order. That meant the worst case scenario for the Pels was that they gave up an 11th pick for CJ; so they could brag they didn't give up a top-10 pick for him. That's not much of a reason though and they might not even have worried about it

so, they played 15 games together but you guys only want to count 10 of those games?

Its a stat from the article.

It does make some sense as those other games were the first week CJ/Ingram played together . But then NO won 3 times against the Lakers after the break, so who knows.

One thing I just noticed, it appears if the Spurs win tonight then beat the Clippers the NO Pick we get will move ahead of the Spurs from #11 to #10?

Then we would be #6 and #10, or if we win the lottery we would get #1 and #10. Pretty good. I would think odds are if we don't move into the top4 we slide back at least a spot from #6 though.

so, they played 15 games together but you guys only want to count 10 of those games? And 5 of those 8 wins came against Lakers, Blazers, and Kings?
I think 6 of the 8 against those 3.

ok. I guess, somewhat theoretically the Pels do have good roster balance with CJ-Ingram-Zion-Valunciunas. But those guys need to all play for a while together to determine how effective it is. The reason the Pels are hosting the play-in game is that in their last 8 games they played the Lakers-Blazers-Kings 6 times and won 5 of those games
