Per Canzano: Roy's insurance covers everything but...

Management ultimately signs off on the contract. If they didn't like it, then don't sign it. Most in here were up in arms when he wasn't getting 5 years at max money. So don't go now and say it's horrible, and shows KP should have been fired. As for the insurance, like was mentioned, why is this a surprise. It's not like management WOULDN'T want it covered. We'd also like Greg's knees covered in his next contract. That possible? Hell no.

Come on man. Don't tell me that management shouldn't have thick enough skin to not listen to the fans and make the right decision. Would a lot of people have been up in arms? Sure. Are they up in arms now anyhow? It's not like management is running for office or something and has to worry about votes. It's also very plain that KP was given a directive by upper management to have an exception for the knee's, which he didn't do.

Very plain? How many contracts are written where a team gets out of a deal if a guy hurts himself? How many oft-injured guys have insurance cover their deals? The answer to both of those is the same, I believe.

And running for office is the same as expecting people to buy your product, so yes, they do in a way have to listen to fans. But my point wasn't because fans wanted it, they should do it, but that whatever happened, fans would bitch and whine about it.

We rewarded the guy with a max deal knowing full well what the status of his knees & insurance were. If we thought it was a good idea to sign him despite those red flags, I would assume we aren't planning on trading him anytime soon, which is why I think the lack of insurance thing is being overblown.

I think we expected his wheels to come off sometime during the contract, but closer to the end of it than at its beginning.

And now you know one of the many reasons why KP was fired, and now the organization has to clean up his mess.

KP also advocated NOT to bring Roy back for the Suns series because he thought it may do long-term damage to Roy's knees. And the disagreement was between a four or five year deal in terms of his contract.

My point is, KP did a lot more good than harm to this franchise.

I'm sorry, but this point makes no sense. The blanket NBA insurance policy has an "exceptions" list of X number of players. Roy is on it. Why would management want to exclude Roy's knees? To keep from getting reimbursed? Because they're riverboat gamblers? Yeah, they're going to get coverage on Andre Miller's knees but not Brandon Roy's.

The insurance company was the one to refuse coverage, not Blazer management.

You misinterpret. They wanted an exception on the contract so they could void it dude to the bad knee's kicking in. KP was given that directive from up above, yet it didn't happen. What you are saying, is the exact opposite.

I guess time will tell. But that's the irony, people are ready to blow it up after 20 games. Unbelievable.

In fairness the last 20 games have been pretty damn dismal.

I don't see any reason why B-Roy can't take his game into the post and still be a very effective player.
But I really don't see how he will ever live up to his contract.

It happens in Portland all the time.
We love a guy who plays pretty well during his rookie contract.
But if he gets a monster deal he better produce or he is going to be villified by the hardcore fans for not living up to being The Man.

To me, this was the entire problem with Sheed.

Mark my words, if Portland signs Batum to a 7 to 8 million per season deal and he doesn't get markedly better he will go from fan favorite to goat of the week by the third week of the season.

Kp was said to get an exception on Roy's knees in his contract, and KP refused? I don't really even think NBA contracts include exceptions like that on injuries, in the actual contract, but do you have a link to management telling him that?

My bad. I apologize.
