As anyone that has followed the Nets this season, can see that the Nets need for a perimeter shooter is at a all-time high. They are in desprate need of someone who can make perimeter shoots in a half court offense besides Kerry Kittles & Jason Kidd. The Nets perimeter shooters Harris & Rodgers are in a season long slump. And are just not holding up their end of the bargin. The Nets might have some bench play help on the way in Eddie Griffen. but with all of his off court problems, he more than likely wont do to much. And he isnt that go to shooter that the Nets will need in order to defend their 2- time Eastern Conference championship. The Pacers & Pistons are better than they were last year.So the road to the NBA finals will be much more bumpy this season. The Nets will have to have all their weapons in place, If they want to play in June. One of those weapons in most need by the Nets is a veteran shooter. A guy the Nets can call on to make big shots to change the tide of a playoff game. A guy that doesnt have to be apart of the every game rotations but is ready to shoot lights out when the coach calls upon him. The Spurs had this type of guy in Steve Kerr last season & it played big results for them in the playoffs especially against Dallas. The Nets need that type of player. So I was looking at a list of FA who could possibly help the Nets with this situation. And these are three Best candiates avaliable.
Glen Rice- He is my favorite out of the 3. I think his presence alone as a 3pt threat would really help the Nets. Spent alot of this season on the injured reserve list with the Clippers. But Glen Rice is an assassin. He still be knocking down jumpers when he is 50.
Walt Williams- Walt Williams would be an excellent chose because he is the last one of the 3 to play in meanful games. Last season he play a big part in helping Dallas advance in the playoffs once Dirk went down. Walt "the Wizard" has hit alot of big shots in his carreer. The only thing with Williams is that he hasnt played basketball all season. So if he does come to the Nets it will take him a while to get back in basketball shape. He wont be a factor until playoff time.but thats what we will need him for so it really isnt that big of a down fall.
Tracy Murray- is another shooter that caught my eye. but he would be more of a last option. He doesnt play defense at all. And his carreer has been on a major down fall since he left Washington. In Portland he didnt even really exist. But In the past he could really shoot the basketball. The problem is I dont really know if he has it left in him.
So which one of these guys (if any) would you like to see fill that veteran shooter role for the Nets? And why.
PS- Former Nugget/Suns/Lakers shooter George Mcloud is also out there on the FA market.
