Pete Rose...still lying to us

...he's a liar, and has about as much credibility as ARod.

Seeing & hearing this, I've just changed my mind............................................Fuck him!

...rick, he let down a lot of people, even well before this latest report. All those years (15) of staunchly denying any wrongdoing and getting the support of ex-mates like Morgan and Bench made them, as well as a lot of others, look like fools for believing and backing him...ask them how they feel about Rose.
...and now this ?...no way he gets reinstated now, much less see the HOF while he's alive.

Even after everything that went on and all those years passed he had the chance to come completely clean. He then comes out and states he started in 1987 so he didn't have to admit that he bet while he was still playing. Now evidence clearly shows he was betting in 1986 and if you believe that's when he happened to start gambling like that you're crazy. The bottom line is that he still had a chance here and still messed it up. I have no sympathy.

...^^^ me either, mess. I mean, like Tim Kurkjian pointed out, to paraphrase, If we're reasonably not sure these games are on the up and up, there's no sense in even watching them.

...I wonder how many pundits/fans who have remain Rose supporters have changed their minds about whether he should be elected to the HOF?

"this is the final piece of the puzzle, this closes the door" (Dowd), the door to the HOF....

Charlie is still trying to hustle MLB and its fans......

The Fkr IS STILL LYING.......bury his ass, burn his records........

This just reinforces my belief that his "lifetime ban" from the game...and also the HOF, should be just that....for his lifetime.

http://espn.go.com/espn/otl/story/_...ines-shows-pete-rose-bet-baseball-player-1986

...^^^ good stuff; great post.......

Lock the door for good, and bury his name for eternity......

Hopefully Manfred will cut thru Rose's bullshit, and all this will blow up in Rose's face, one last final time a Commish, should have to address the issue of Rose......

:shitstorm: the Shit Storm has arrived....

Rose isn't even worth burying behind the barn in Cooperstown....feed him to the Gators.......:shock1:

Even if the jerk would have said (when admitting that he did bet on baseball) "I believe it was only 87-88, I don't remember EXACTLY but yeah, I think it was only 87-88". Instead of saying that it was ONLY 87-88. Now the idiot is pissing on our heads & trying to tell us its raining out. He blew any chance he had of getting in.

... article by Jayson Stark...never was a fan of his before but this is just terrible;

I actually like the idea... Wish we could do something similar for the likes of Bonds, Clemens, etc. who are under the cloud of using/cloud of suspicion of using 'roids phrasing... I'd be ok with them too... Shoeless Joe should be definitely in, but if the need to have something on there, say while he accepted money, it couldn't be proven he did anything to affect the game...

In the end, no one had more hits than Rose... no one... That should be enough... don't let him be involved in any way... Can't manage, can't attend games, but for God's sake... he has more hits than anyone else...

...I disagree, hammer...Bonds, Clemens, and Rose already have their names in the record books forever, and IMO, that's enough...But the HOF?...No way.

...again, IMO, it's called The Hall of Fame, not The Hall of Infamy.

As we used to say in the military, one can score all the atta boys in existence its the ah shit that does you in.

...pretty much. I mean, the HOF is the highest honor that can be given for a lifetime in Baseball. And consideration for The Hall should include everything, not just part of a player's association with the game.
...as I like to point out, I'm sure that a one time, Bernie Madoff was one helluva banker/investor but that does not offset what he eventually became.

MLB Rule 21; "Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible."

1- Excellent Article, thanks..........

2- Or "The Hall of Shame", not even a separate Out House for those infamous shameless bastards....

3- Madoff made off alright....

...^^^

:biglaugh::roflmao::rotfl: "one helluva banker" prior to his Ponzi Tripo.....

I always thought the HOF was a place to showcase the best in the sport... not necessarily the nicest (See Ty Cobb), but the best... Rose was the best IMO as far as hits go...

MLB Rule 21; "Any player, umpire, or club or league official or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible."
Ineligible to play or for HOF? to play, I agree... But to have a plaque... I do not agree that he should be permanently banned... Steroids enhance your performance... that should eliminate one from records, but... I don't know... I like the idea of a plaque with a qualifying statement...

I like the idea of a 10,000 square foot outhouse 100 yards behind the HOF; for/with those Juicers.......

Where a plaque goes on the wall, an outdoor toilet seat will be right below it........~!

...but that's just it, Baseball and the HOF are 2 completely separate entities ruled by themselves separately. And the HOF is strictly done by voting and the voters have spoken, not just about Rose but the PED users as well.
...but for me, the main differences are that Baseball is a business and a sport that I follow...while the HOF, IMO, is "hallowed ground" and should not be desecrated by by someone who not only broke a near 100 year old Baseball Commandment, but also continues to lie about it 30 years after the fact.

...fwiw, I do think Rose will eventually get in, but only posthumously.

Exactly "hallowed ground", that's why none of the Juicers belong in, and the most of an exception I'd make If I had a voice, would indeed be an Outhouse way out behind the HOF, call it the hall of shame.........!

I too think it'll be posthumously, and think Jackson should be in before Rose... So that rule you listed in post 19 is a MLB rule, not a HOF rule... I respect that and agree with it... the HOF voting has other issues that need corrections too... I'm thinking that someone who leads or led a certain number of categories (to be determined) is automatically entered baring the 'roid use

Look at the records he holds/held... Hell, he has more singles than all but 13 people had in their careers...

    • Most career outs – 10,328

How do those stats not be entered in the HOF? I'm not saying he should be a role model or that he is a class act, but his stats say he should be in... and being that it's stats that decide if someone is in or not, he should be in but banned from anything to do with the game and legally held to be unable to profit from the HOF status.

...I'll never sign on for Rose in the HOF...no way. IMO, if we were to overlook his transgressions and allow him into the HOF, it would be akin to saying "It's OK to bet on Baseball, as long as you set a few records".

...but I definitely agree about Ichiro...he's one of the top 10 best players I've ever seen play.

...also agree about Joe Jackson...there is absolutely NO evidence that he helped throw the WS, or that he ever received any money.

I don't know... I still think he should be in but is ineligible to reap any benefits, but his stats belong in there

...I understand you position, but to me, the HOF is a "benefit".

...and after this latest news, I'd be surprised if the people at Cooperstown want anything to do with Rose.

His numbers as Steve supplied them are amazing though.
