The NHL is not the same as the e NBA. He can't do what he did with the Hurricanes because the players association is significantly stronger in the NBA then it is in the NHL.

I know. I'm not comparing the two leagues. His path will have to be different, but it goes to show what kind of owner he is.

That’s fair….. i just don’t see a way to compare those situations at all. COMPLETELY different. I can understand hoping he does well, but expecting it is a totally different thing. All these people on here begging for Jody to sell simply assuming ANYBODY would be better was foolish. #ANYBODYBUTSTOTTS right?

She certainly didn’t stop the Seahawks from winning.

Its easy to do be a strong armed owner when the owners in the NHL hold more control than the players do.

I was definitely ready for #AnyoneButBertKolde

I just think the Blazers should get an experienced and established coach. Why go with a new guy? There's lot of good coaches out there with good track records.

I want the best candidate for the job. If it's a coach with head coaching experience or a guy like Johnny Bryant who is reportedly some kind of coaching protigy... or a guy like Sam Cassell who has been the lead assistant on several teams including the last Celtics championship team.

Why not ask Clyde Drexler, Brandon Roy or Damon Stoudamire? They’re ex Blazers.
Brandon Roy may someday become an NBA coach. I think Damon is coaching somewhere also though I’m not sure he will excel.
Drexler doesn’t have that kind of drive is my guess. He’s pretty happy talking basketball but I just don’t think he’s the coach type?

Mighty Mouse is currently in his 3rd season as the head coach of Georgia Tech and they're in last place in the ACC.

If we want an ex blazer to coach look no further than Terry Stotts. With the defensive talent we have he’d fix the offense

Done wonders for the Warriors....ooh wait. ;)

Is Roy still coaching somewhere also? Thought it was a high school team?

You don't need to find a former Blazer, but I know this is not exactly a serious idea.

Still, one has to wonder if there is a diamond on the rough somewhere who could be a brilliant coach. What if they had made Damian interim head coach this year? Can you be on the player roster and a coach at the same time if you aren't going to play for the whole year? What would his coaching look like?

Other big question marks:

Carmelo Anthony -----what would his coaching style be?

CJ McCollum-----if only he was a few years older and did the Reddick thing, I think he is a major thinker and would be a good strategist.

Wes Matthews-----isn't he out or nearly out of the league?

Michael Holton-------he sure seems to have a ton of quick, confident and well-explained strategies and approaches to every situation. Though, I wonder if he's too laid back. Doesn't he coach somewhere already in the off-season or he has in the past?

Lamarcus Aldridge -----who knows? Maybe he is a genius coach waiting to come out of his shell.

.

Based on how he has handled the Hurricanes, the Blazers are about to be put back on the map.
Thats a very small sample size to draw a conclusion from. Do you handle every new situation the same way?

STOMP

Again Bert did not stop the Seahawks from winning a championship.
Just saying.
Didn't seem like Bert was meddling in with the Seahawks front office quite like he enjoyed doing with the Blazers ... maybe it's because too many in the front office got too use to the idea of SPAM and Kolde didn't like his golden goose getting drained but you never heard about BK messing around in Seattle.

Many would argue it's nice to get your goose drained.

Yeah I think he has been out of the coaching game for a couple seasons. Wonder what happened, he was having a lot of success. Did we ever get to the bottom of that whole shooting thing?

Said he made a full recovery but yes he was shot in Compton with his kids near. Sounded like he was covering his kid when the shooting happened. Pretty scary actually.

Watching the Mavs game on Friday in person...I really think Splitter is not showing any great coaching skills and our team could benefit greatly from someone like Malone. Wondering how this idea has aged since the topic started? Would be interesting to get a tally of everyone who is for Malone as coach and everyone who is against it. I'll go:

I'm definitely for it, I believe Malone is the best coach on the market. Anyone have any other candidates?

Anyway, petition signed.

I think there is a reason he isn't coaching yet. The Toxic nature of the way he was dismissed and the overall message that it sent being fired right before the playoffs after the way the team was essentially melting down.
I agree he is probably the most experienced and winningest coach available but I'm just not sure he would be a great choice?

All things considered, based in reality, did anyone expect this team to finish the season close to .500 considering they missed Scoot for most of the season, Jerami and Jrue for large chunks, Matisse for most of the season, and at one time had no healthy natural PG on the roster?

Besides the shiny object chasing most fans do, I doubt (as I'm sure I said already in this thread) the new owner wants to pay a premium for a coach (which is what it will take to get Malone) nor do I think Malone would be interested and furthermore, they massively over performed for what they had body wise

That's fair. I did hear that there was an apology to him for firing him and I wonder if it was something more personal between him and the GM or something?

Who else is available out there? I just wish that we could get a coach that had some fire in his blood. Somebody who can get mad and get after the players and have a tenacious and aggressive drive. I think even Stotts had a lot more fire in his blood than Splitter. I guess I do see Splitter get angry sometimes, but I think the main thing is he doesn't make the right adjustments or decisions to stop the rhythm of an opposing team and change things up and counter certain things going on.

Malone is a fiery coach. No question there.

Had this conversation with some Nuggets employees when we were out there last week. Told him I’ve been hearing how dans want to bring in Malone. He said NO WAY! Said the guy is a jerk to EVERYONE! Only was considered a good coach because of Joker.
