Had this conversation with some Nuggets employees when we were out there last week. Told him I’ve been hearing how dans want to bring in Malone. He said NO WAY! Said the guy is a jerk to EVERYONE! Only was considered a good coach because of Joker.

The Joker is one of the greatest ever. It is really hard to evaluate coaches when they have a superstar.
I feel the same about Nick Nurse (with Kawhi) and Mike Budenholzer with Giannis. I am sure they are decent coaches, but great coaches because they won a championship?

Not sure if Splitter is the answer, but much like young players, young coaches can improve as well.

With statements like that then he might be sitting a while before getting another chance to coach.
I think I remember him blowing up on an interview once when the guy called him Mike or Something?

I think Steve Kerr is a good coach also but you got to admit he had a lot of talent to work with.

Who/what is 'dans'

You don't need to find a former Blazer, but I know this is not exactly a serious idea.

Still, one has to wonder if there is a diamond on the rough somewhere who could be a brilliant coach. What if they had made Damian interim head coach this year? Can you be on the player roster and a coach at the same time if you aren't going to play for the whole year? What would his coaching look like?

Other big question marks:

Carmelo Anthony -----what would his coaching style be?

CJ McCollum-----if only he was a few years older and did the Reddick thing, I think he is a major thinker and would be a good strategist.

Wes Matthews-----isn't he out or nearly out of the league?

Michael Holton-------he sure seems to have a ton of quick, confident and well-explained strategies and approaches to every situation. Though, I wonder if he's too laid back. Doesn't he coach somewhere already in the off-season or he has in the past?

Lamarcus Aldridge -----who knows? Maybe he is a genius coach waiting to come out of his shell.

.
Is this a joke?

No offense. I'm just really skeptical of ex players as coaches unless they've proven it at a high level -- somewhere else. I'm especially wary of players with a ton of natural ability. None of those guys have shown anything to make me think they'd be decent NBA coaches.

Brandon Roy may someday become an NBA coach. I think Damon is coaching somewhere also though I’m not sure he will excel.
Drexler doesn’t have that kind of drive is my guess. He’s pretty happy talking basketball but I just don’t think he’s the coach type?
I don't think either Damon or Drexler as Coach would be optimal.

Maybe Roy... As an assistant.

The thing is there are a bunch of ex players that have become coaches and even have won championships as coaches.

Sure, but I don't think Damon or Drexler have the work ethic to do well at it.

I'm honestly not sure Roy does either.

These guys were all incredible athletes. Like, uncommonly naturally gifted.

Most naturally gifted players aren't great coaches. Especially if they didn't have NBA championship experience. and Drexler and Damon have already proven that they are not really even decent college coaches.

I was just proposing the idea that what if there was a hidden gem in any of those past players and we didn't know it? I'm just saying, you never know. Yes, it's unlikely.

How about the guy who got them to potentially finish at or around .500 while missing their backup of for most of the season, their starting PG for a long stretch, their starting SG for the last 4-5 weeks, their backup SF (Tisse) for most of the season, their other backup SF for a while (Murray), their starting SF for a chunk of the season, and at one point staring and utilizing a couple 2-way players?

If you read this board (You obviously do) that guy sucks.
#FireStotts!

Wasn't Malone not getting along with several of his players?
DING DING DING
Down the stretch Jokic was snatching the clipboard away from him and drawing up the plays, NOT him. Plus, think of how bad it is going if the coach gets fired gets fired 10 days before the playoffs start?

Terry had em in the playoffs. This guy ain't done anything like that yet.

And they had the same rosters.....

Please look at Terry's first season record and get back to me....

In fact. Look at Terry's first 4 years in the league AND his first year with the Blazers. splitter has a chance to have a better record than Terry did in his first 5 years.

That is a very good point. Terry had a rough go to start. Kind of think this roster is better than what Terry had there.

I'll say this, Splitter is already a better coach than Chauncey was in my view. Chauncey didn't give a fuck about losing. I am a Stotts fan. He got to the dance without a bench for most of a decade. I think Stotts would be great for the roster we have now but I don't think he'll get an interview.
