I doubt this very much. Barea brings energy, he is a pest on D, he attacks the basket, he can shoot from the outside., he can pass.....what part of that would Nate not like.

Now there are fans who hate short PG's that would think he dribbles too much, but that's their issues. Not Nates

Ricky's press conference coming up in about 10 minutes. The T-wolves, by NBA rules, can only pay half of the million dollar buyout as is the clause in his Barça contract. I'm interested to see what sponsors are picking up the rest. Seems as if he's coming to the US as something of an "Indentured Servant." He'll be doing promotion for someone in return for their paying his way over. I know, I know, his rookie wage scale won't end him in the poor house.

As an early 1st round pick, his pay must be within a specific range. It's impossible for him to sign for so little.

Come to think of it, she's right that it's indentured servitude, like in the 1700s. He has to make a couple million or whatever the Europe payoff is, by working for his sponsoring companies for free. It's like living in a company town and you can't get out of debt to the company-owned businesses. Unlike that situation, he'll eventually work his way out of the obligation by making ads for his sponsors, but will it take 1 year or 5 years?

How much did Rudy have to pay to play here? (Just the payoff to the previous team, not including the large pay cut.)

I like his game, and I think he has a chance to be great, but people HAVE to get off of this "indentured servitude" or "poor kid has to shill for free to pay his way to the NBA".

Indentured servants signed a contract while in Europe for their passage to be paid by their employer in the New World. That's the whole definition of indentured servitude. Poor young Ricky looks so thin and he's going to get thinner. A shame.

Our guy Rudy did it right. He saved his pennies, paid for the voyage himself, and didn't have to work in the Nike mills.

No, that's not the case with Ricky. The immigrants did not sign the contract making the cost of the ride an inordinate amount. Ricky did. HE SIGNED A CONTRACT WITH A HIGH BUYOUT AMOUNT. Done. Finito. Finis. End-of-story. If he didn't want to be greedy and sign a six-year deal to make millions over the last couple of years, he didn't have to.

It took indentured servants more than 6 years to work it off. After reforms, 7 years became the ideal, but many contracts were longer, especially before reforms. Poor hungry Ricky was LESS selfish than them, and more lucky, signing for only 6 years. For the better part of the next decade, while he labors in the sweatboxes of the Minneapolis TV studios making pointless, repetitive, dehumanizing ads, humming "Swing low, sweet chariot, Lord's coming to carry me away" let's all remember that it was the advent of unions which saved the rest of us from his travails.

I'm pretty sure the players' union signed off on the CBA that made a cap of $500k on what owners could pay towards buyouts.

And that 6 year contract isn't his MIN one...it's the one he signed with Barcelona in 2009 AFTER he was drafted by the Timberwolves. Which was a new contract over the one he signed in 2007 with Joventut, again stipulating a large salary (at the expense of having a large buyout).
