I am mostly joking. I actually like watching when players cross over from other sports, because they are true athletes. That's really why I brought it up. It was a dumb joke, but I'll keep trying.

LIV Golf calls its lawyers

A group of 11 LIV golfers, including Phil Mickelson and Bryson DeChambeau, filed an antitrust lawsuit against the PGA Tour yesterday. The players are challenging the suspensions imposed by the PGA Tour in June, and three are also seeking a restraining order that would allow them to play in next week’s FedEx Cup Playoffs.



What should you make of the situation? Let golf editor Hugh Kellenberger explain:

  • Mixed messages, FTW. On June 28, Pat Perez blamed the FedEx Cup playoffs for missing the birth of his son, pointing to it as a primary reason why he needed to escape the PGA Tour and its grueling schedule. On Aug. 3, Perez joined a lawsuit in hopes of being able to play on the PGA Tour again. I’m sorry, but that’s objectively hilarious.
  • This was inevitable. We’ve been waiting for this moment for some time, and the injunction filed by Talor Gooch, Hudson Swafford and Matt Jones to participate in the playoffs puts urgency on the matter.
  • PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan sent a letter to current Tour players that said Mickelson and the rest are trying to “promote themselves and to free ride on your benefits and efforts.” He might have a point.

I know Rory, Tiger, Rahm, Matsuyama, etc (there’s a lot that didn’t take the offer to go) must be pretty pissed for rejecting hundreds of millions for nothing

My guys at the Golf Channel said today was like 9/11 at their studios. Shock, disbelief….. crazy day they said. People pissed off!
 
Like any religion they thrive through power and dominance.
 
Rory McIlroy thinks it's okay now because he says LIV is going away. They are called PIF now. Wut???
 
I am not up on golf. Is LPGA independent? Saudis not exactly fans of women's sports. Does the deal include women or are they separate?
