This was a very serious injury like on the marcus lattimore level. I hope that Brown's pain is being managed and wish him nothing but a speedy recovery.

If it was his knee that bent like that, he is most likely done. If it was a shin or another bone, he could be back next year. Either way his season is over.

From that angle, it looks like the knee. Poor kid!

This is an occasion where I wish the team would release a public statement about the injury.

It appears that Brown stepped on the foot of Evan Balis and made his next step awkward that led to the injury.

I am not trying to over-sensationalize this injury. Oregon just doesn't like to speak of them and more times than not, we are left to just guessing not only how the injury happened but also the extent of the injury. Hopefully this helps clear things up. I hope to see Brown back on the field soon.

Could he have dislocated his knee or is this something much much worse?

That knee was so hyper-extended, I would have to think that any tendon or muscle that could be sprained, torn, or seperated........is.

I wouldnt even think this injury can be held against him because it wasn't a routine or a fluke play.

The rehab from these kinds of injuries are pretty good these days. There have been a lot of success stories.
 
Possible? Yes.

Likely? Doubtful.

A TE generally doesn't need to rely on cutting ability to make defenders miss like a RB does. He may lose some mobility but it shouldn't be career ending.
 
Well even at that, RBs have returned from severe knee injuries. Frank Gore for one. Of course, the sometimes they try to come back but never get past the point where their knee swells up after activity. Marcus Lattimore is a recent example of a failed comeback attempt.

I think Lattimore had multiple serious injuries. I think its all about how seriously you take your rehab.
 
I am actually worried about Brown. Sure he's in good medical hands but worry about his emotional side. Oregon sent him back to Ohio to be with his mother but I am sure that Oregon didn't want him around the rest of the team so they didn't get brought down. I would want to be with my teammates if I could just so I could have that sense of belonging. It would suck to be separated from my brothers.
 
It looks like he dislocated his knee. The scary thing with this injury is he may have damaged the common peroneal nerve and may have permanent foot drop because of it making it difficult or even impossible for him to ever run again. He may have a hard time even walking if that nerve was injured. He may also have damaged his popliteal artery which could lead to amputation if it's unable to be fixed. According to data from about 10 years ago approximately 40% of those that have this injury have an amputation below the knee as a result. The prognosis is pretty grave.

Injuries like this should require some kind of information from the program. I understand why they would want to keep certain injury information out of the news, but this was a serious injury that could cost him his career and I think it would be good if they at least shared how severe and to what extent the damage was. Nobody thinks he's going to come back this season. It's not hurting the program by sharing that kind of information. I would just like to know what his recovery timeline is and how he is doing.

I'd guess HIPAA might have something to do with it also. They've acknowledged he's out unlike guys like Grasu, and Lowe who they just say are day to day.

I feel like HIPAA hasn't stopped any other program from revealing the extent of injuries.

Sorry but I see no good reason the program needs to do this and support them playing his future close to the vest. As you've noted, obviously he's out for the season & his future beyond that is in doubt. He's a young college kid who at best has a looooooong rehab ahead of him if he's ever to see the field again. Wishing him well but respecting his privacy as he goes through this ordeal is how fans can best support him... slapping an artificial timeline on his recovery won't change matters. The curiosity of some fans is not a priority here at all.

possible, I dont follow too many other teams other than really national news, so I cant say one way or the other. But I cant think of any instances off the top of my head where info was released by the school where they gave information on someone being able to walk again or nerve damage or amputation (not your post)... maybe by the player voluntarily, or medical experts' best guesses on Sportscenter. But I'd guess that schools would be in some hot water by going into said detail. Again thats my best guess, i cant say for certain otherwise.

That usually comes out yeah. Curtis White, and Branden Williams are two who come to mind with that.
