You're filthy rich? I can match that except that I'm not that rich.

Oh, people, people, I didn't mean it that way. Hey, I take a bath the first Saturday night of each month. And I usually get the second use of the water in the tub. Nope, no third hand washing for me. Oh, and I change my underwear and socks at the same time as my bath, so there.
Your southern roots are showing........

:bgrin:

I have never said Obama didn't do anything positive for our economy, Im just pointing out the the economy now is humming and I don't care who's done it. If it was doing well under Obama how could anyone say its not doing as well now?
Like a mentioned yesterday Lanny, My wife and I will pay much less fed tax this year which helps us a retired . My kids, some liberal are getting more in their checks then they ever did the previous 8 years. Whats wrong with that. I just don't get why people won't at least agree partially with some positive happenings rather than erecting is bad under this president. I never took that position when Obama was in, I give any admin credit regardless of party.
Im personally hoping our Country and kids get to achieve great things and prosper.
These staunch left and rights are so caught up in politics and don't see real positive things happening.
It’s great that workers are seeing a little more in their paychecks but I hope like hell they’re putting it away for later. Because those tax cuts are temporary and it’s their generation who are going to have to pay for the fallout down the road. Unless they get rich in the meantime of course........

I hope so too. I know it's all about more spending and more taxing eventually.

I don't really understand it either.
But there are people on here who've made the claim that as soon as it was shown Trump had a chance to be the republican nominee. That business owners then decided to open their pocket books and spend giving the economy a boost.
That statement has been made by more than just the troll account.

It's a matter of what you choose to believe/find more difficult to believe.
Do you believe the mention of overlord Donald Trump having a chance at the presidency boosted the economy?
Or
Do you believe that over the course of time during the previous administration the economy was managed to a point that the next administration would benefit. So much so they'd attempt to take credit for the boost?

Political grandstanding.

I don't see how tariffs are going to help the economy. When other countries respond with tariffs of their own.
Simply because it may help one business, yet it hurts another.
I've heard something different. I've heard that businesses are reinvesting their tax windfall in buying up company stock thereby sending the market higher and higher. The sad part is that our numerous trade wars and newly won enemies are beginning to stagnate the market.

The tax cuts will be made permanent as soon as the Dems stop obstructing the Congressional vote to do so.

Democrats are not only powerless to halt such a move but also would welcome making the cuts for lower and middle classes match the permanent cuts for the upper class.
Maybe you could link to some sort of support for your assertion from a credible source. By credible, I mean one that's won some accolades for their journalism.

I think tariffs can be used by anyone if they want a more level playing field.
The company I used to work for had joint ventures in Japan & China, neither would allow an American Company to own a business outright, had to be joint venture.
However, we've allowed China & Japan to acquire all sorts of business, government building etc. outright.

Im always been of the opinion if you treat people fairly you may be treated fairly, but there are always ones that get greedy and want it just their way.
For me its all about fairness, balance & respectfulness.

Now is the time for Tariffs to work. China can not win because they can not do without our market.
These tariffs are not about revenue. It is about bringing about free trade or we will make it no trade. Simple and about time.

China doesn't need us as much as you and Trump think they do. And they play the long game - Xi will be around long after Trump is gone.

When prices go up due to the tariffs, no one here is going to be happy.

I'm just going to use an example which was talked about on this site by alt-right conservatives on this site a few months ago.

Solarworld was 'helped' by tarrifs placed on solar panels which were manufactured in other countries.
However this tarrif raised the price of solar panel installation.
This is the classic robbing from the poor, to give to the poor. While the rich get richer with the republican economics of the 'trickle down effect'.

Tarrifs are fine, but if you're going to place a tarrif on something to help one American industry... Only for that tarrif to hurt another American industry.. Who is really(as alt-right conservatives like to put it) winning?
It's not really fair, balanced, and respectful if you hurt one American industry, by helping another? While letting 1% of the 1% get tax breaks?

Which is really the point I was trying to make.

...so you don't mind paying higher prices as a consumer for those tariffs?...how does that make things better?

China has 49 railway routes to Europe. They have a train that can go from Beijing to the coast at 300 mph. Our fastest train is 150 mph and can only go that fast on 18 miles of it's 150 mile route.

We should be more afraid of China than they are of us.

WTF?
Beijing to the Coast is 62 miles. Most of the trip would be in acceleration and slow down even if it reached but half that speed.

...what did he assume?...seems to me you made it very clear...and are you actually claiming that you do possess anything that was made in China?
The only Chinese thing that I knowingly possess is a bottle of Tsing Tao.

Edit: Side Note - This is my favorite lager. My favorite dark beer is Guiness Stout. Buy me either one and I will tell you my life's story coupled with some tears and some hearty laughter.

Not sure what is your question? Yes, I have stuff made in China. I do not need any more right now. Tariff the shit out of them,
force them to free trade and fair practices. Perhaps I might find the need for another item from China soon after the tariff have been replaced with a reasonable agreement.

...that's not true...the ( Edited for Lanny) Maglev train can accelerate from 0-150 in about 1 minute...300 mph in about 2 minutes.

...and then they do the same thing to us...brilliant strategy.
