Scoot / Shaedon / Tou / Deni / Clingan

Same. Time to make a commitment to the youth movement and see what they can do. We'd have a hell of a strong bench with that plan: Timelord (Yang), Grant, Murray, Matisse, Jrue.

I just included Yang for shits and giggles, as I think he will be getting very few minutes indeed this season (barring injuries).

Scoot Jrue Camara Deni Clingan

I'd like Sharpe to take one of the starting guard spots but honestly Scoot defense has been better.

Are we trying to win…..or develop our young core? Definitely plays into my choices.

We don’t have the skill to go for wins at the expense of developing our future. That may get us play-in but no long-term benefit.

Develop the young core and we may still get play-in but with a better view of our strengths and weaknesses and a better understanding of how we should move forward.

Which five players would you least want to watch? My vote;

Duop
Grant
Murray
Love
Wesley

Locks
Camara
Avdija
Clingan

it would be malpractice if Jerami starts if those above are healthy

2 of
Scoot Sharpe Jrue

Scoot can only play point, unless he improves his shooting, until then he can't be off the ball

Sharpe can't play point and undersized as a forward

Jrue can play point and off guard

So I think Scoot and Sharpe starts and Jrue subs either of them as 6th man

That would mean Grant and Jrue coming off the bench….I just don’t see that happening.

I want the lineup to be this:
Scoot/Shae/Tou/Deni/Don

I have a feeling it will be this:
Jrue/Shae/Tou/Deni/Don

But after further thought, I don’t have a huge problem with it. I don’t think Shae will be moving to the bench. Especially when we should be finalizing an extension this summer, I don’t think that happens. But you would be giving Deni a full season to be 1A decision maker with Jrue as the secondary decision maker, I’d be interested to see what he becomes with a full sample size of an increased role.

I actually think Duop will start at center more than either Yang or Clingan and we will all be pulling our hair out by the fistfuls.

Agree with you on the three locks. The reasoning above doesn’t support playing Jrue off the bench any more than starting him though. If Scoot came off the bench, Jrue slides to SG, and if Shae came off the bench, Jrue slide to PG. Shae is a lock to me. We have to lock him up this summer imo, and there’s no way he is not starting coming off inking his rookie extension.

The reason I’m ultimately fine if Jrue started is because our defense is going to be very good. I think inserting Jrue over Scoot might maximize our chances of internal growth:

- Jrue, Tou, and Deni on the perimeter takes all the pressure off Shae to ever have to guard even the second best perimeter player on the court. I am hoping the team lets him take that leap into being a primary option (18-20 FGA type of guy)

- Jrue’s advanced age makes him less useful as a primary, maybe even secondary playmaker, but he is still able to make a huge impact as a savvy defender and spot up shooter. This is really going to allow Deni to get that primary decision-maker role.

- Scoot coming off the bench is going to give him a chance to continue to improve his game against the second five’s for another season and improve on Jrue’s trade value.

Scoot / Shaedon / Tou / Deni / Clingan

Looks like the consensus. Also how i voted.

I have a feeling that Deni will end up getting the most votes. Ironically, he'd make a great sixth man, as he's sort of a big poor man's Ginobili. But currently he's our only rebounding forward.

Agreed. Id love to see Deni be the spark off the bench. In the starting lineup multiple people need the ball but he could run the show with the second unit.

Guards: The two players who play the best in camp. I would be happy with any two of the three: Scoot, Jrue, and Shae if they earn it.
Forwards: Same as above, whichever 2 of the 3 between Deni, Grant, and Tou
Center: Clingan. They need to ease Yang into it, and Williams needs limited minutes to last the whole season. (or at least until the trade deadline)

Ideally, I would love to see the young players all start, but they need to take it from the veterans. Which, frankly, I think is a real possibility. Either way, the 6 guards/forwards will all end up getting around 30 minutes because of inevitable injuries.

I can't agree, at all, with Deni being the primary decision maker. Way too many turnovers and not nearly enough throttle on his turbo mode. He had a 1.44 assist/turnover ratio last season. And 1.52 his final year with the Wizards. He's a secondary ball-handler and facilitator, at best

by comparison, Jrue's assist/turnover ratio last season was 3.25; the year before it was 2.67

is Scoot and Deni start with Jrue coming off the bench, the Blazer starters may lead the league in turnovers

He's the only dribbling forward, the only passing forward & clearly the team's best player. If we had 6 Denies, I'd be for starting 5 and have the 6th one be the first guy off the bench

STOMP

It seems like our only interesting controversy is Scoot vs. Jrue. (Why not both?)

There's no way that Jrue doesn't start (and no way that he shouldn't start). You don't go from starting on a championship favorite to the bench on a team that will be lucky to make the play in. That sends a bad message and makes no basketball sense. (I know "play the young guys to develop them" but on the other hand "don't teach the young guys entitlement by giving them something they don't deserve".)

We saw that last season... it didn't look good

I am not sure what happened early last year matters unless the other 4 players are exactly the same. And even if they were the same players, that doesn't mean they haven't gotten better.

Having said that, I think they need to start him and bring him back in with the 2nd team.
