Close up shots are decent but when they go back to the full-court shots the picture is absolutely horrible.

It's like watching the game on a Zenith TV from 1985. The quality has always sucked and you really can see just how bad it is when a Blazer game is also televised on ESPN/TNT.

You able to get off the hill there Fez?

I agree with Fez while watching the broadcasts on Comcast Sportschannel... the closeups look fine, but the wide shut sucks ass.

It makes me wonder if there's something wrong with their primary (wide shot) camera.

That wasn't HD. The was non-HD broadcast on HD channel. It wasn't broadcast out of Denver in HD for some reason.

I think the only HD road games we are doing this season are the Clipper games in LA.

Whether it's HD or not isn't really the point, as I understand it. The wide shot looks like horse crap in SD. The tighter shots look fine.

I complained about this with Comcast Sportschannel (looking like vaseline was smeared on my screen) and, alas, it's gotten no better.

The great part, though, of last night's game was that it was a KGW game, so I got to watch the Denver broadcast, although listening to their announcers was even worse than the Blazers' homerism.

Yes, but I can tell you this. I have watched a CSNW game side by side with a NBATV broadcast, and the NBATV broadcast did not have the problem. I believe the problem is the way comcast is sending the signal out, it is being compressed or is being upscaled. Something they are doing is F'ing it up.

I agree with Hasoos, and the Blazers seem to be aware Comcast has a problem... but Comcast hasn't done anything to fix it. CSNW has a blurry picture all the time. The broadcast from the Blazers comes out fine... then it goes to Comcast and they fuck it up so they can send it out on their shitty CSNW channel with the bandwidth of a dialup modem. I've complained to everyone who will listen. Comcast says contact Verizon. Blazers say problem is with Comcast in Troutdale. With the amount of money Comcast has wasted on adds telling us to nag or TV providers... they could have really built this fiber network they claim to have. (Even though they mean *internally* they use fiber... they still have the same old coax to your house) :dunno:

Isn't the issue the same with KGW, too? That's the point of this thread.

IDK; the picture quality sucks anytime the BLAZER banners adorn the sides of the broadcast, hopefully tonight with it being on channel 788 or whatever it is, it'll be better.

And why is comcast always late on getting the damn broadcast working on 788 anyway? It's never on, when its says it is.... and i always miss the shit in HD.

Well damn then... that ruins my whole argument. =) In my opinion... the pic quality is better on KGW even when the games are SD. I didn't really have a problem with the picture last night. Tonight... I will throw up in my mouth when the game starts... but because it is the Blazers... I will swallow and drive on.

Is it really that hard to understand that it's simply the difference between SD and HD? Watch any game on any network in SD and they all look like crap. And in case you are confused if you see the Blazer or ESPN sidebars then the game is being broadcast in SD so yes it will look like garbage. Especially wide shots where you will see even less detail. All NBA TV games are in HD so if you are comparing an NBA TV broadcast to an SD Blazer broadcast then it will be night and day. It really isn't that difficult to understand, why the hell do so many people get confused with this very simple concept!!! Just because you are watching the HD channel doesn't mean the game is in HD, remember it will be in 16x9.... Nevermind I don't have time for this. If you don't get it yet than you need to do some homework or quit bitching about something you aren't very educated about. Why did I just waste the last 5 minutes of my life typing this?

It's good because it's not just me. I know what you mean though. Back to 37, but I'll be checking 788 OFTEN.

F this... the non Hd feed looks terrible as always and there is no sound on the HD feed.

What is your problem?

And do you think that I am stupid?

How many games in SD do you think I watch a week? I watch some or all of over 20 games a week. I can say, without one iota of hesitation, that the Comcast Sportschannel is singular in its terrible quality.

It is not a mere limitation of SD versus HD, because EVERY OTHER BROADCAST I see--whether it's NBA TV or YES or any of the other myriad of local broadcasts--ALL look better.

And, no, I do not watch NBA TV broadcasts in HDTV. I watch channel 416 on Comcast in Seattle, and it's SD.

Before you go off like you know so much more than other people, why don't you figure out the lay of the land a little bit?

Check out this link. Three pictures I took at basically the same time with games in HD, SD and CSNW SD. I am sure you can figure out which they are. The top is HD. Middle is SD on ESPN, bottom is CSNW in SD. The CSNW SD picture is quite obviously worse than the ESPN one. Yes I am sure it is more noticeable on bigger TVs... but damn... I can hardly tell who the players are on CSNW. I didn't have any problem last night on KGW.

Disclaimer: Just threw this up on an old blog post.

Evidence that CSNW sucks

Wow. I knew it was bad, but seeing them next to each other like that really shows how bad it is. I don't understand why anyone would subscribe to comcast except for the Blazers. Directv SD is far and away a better picture.

I loved DirecTV. Only reason I switched to Verizon FiOS is because of the Blazers.

CSNW is far worse than any other Comcast channel. I see no real difference between DirecTV (which I had) and Comcast (which I have) except that I can watch Blazer Games... in Mike Rice Beer Goggle Vision. :banghead:

I have Comcast (so I could get the Blazers) and most of the other HD channels are great (when there is a HD program airing. Some non-HD programs are aired on the HD channels.) Many of the SD channels are acceptable as well.

As EdO posted above, CSNNW SD is out on an island in offering consistently crappy SD picture quality. The HD feeds (when they actually start on time) are pretty good HD quality. Unfortunately many of the games are not broadcast in HD.

The people involved in this should be ashamed of themselves. Their lack of accountability, inability to solve the problem and unresponsiveness to complaints is disgusting.

That they have spent considerable amounts of money running ads about the sat TV contract negotiations only adds fuel to a level of ego corporate disconnect that boggles in its endless stupidity and waste. What moron is running this show?
