The Rockets are in a interesting position. They’re looking to be in more of a win now mode than a rebuild mode. If we did take on Dillon Brooks I wonder if we could get Jabari Smith Jr and what would the price be?

I'm not sure I would want to take (and pay) Jabari when we have Deni and Toumani. Not a bad reclamation project, but I'm not seeing him have the impact that either of those two bring.

They are due for a consolidation trade. Neither Smith or Green should figure to be in their plans for long.

They would be so good if they drafted Clingan.

Sengun has been pretty damn good for them. He's averaging 19 & 11 with 5 assists. Per36 it's 22-13-6. I seriously doubt they had any interest in drafting a backup C at #3 when they already had Adams in that role

This thread mentions Hueter and Lyles are on the block. I'd suspect they are trying to land a player like Grant. If they didn't want to give up a pick, I'd take Devin Carter instead.

Indeed. But they'd have the best defense in the league with Cling Kong

This is basically crap and an unprotected 1st for Jerami Grant. It gets Grant's contract off our books. And that 1st could be used, or packaged to move up in the 2025 draft.

The Kings are under performing, but have a lot invested in their middle aged roster, so they'd be in win now mode.

I will alter this proposal a bit and ask your opinion.

‘26 has to move to ‘27 because they owe ‘25. How about we make that top 4 protected instead. We also get Devin Carter, and toss in Banton.

So overall trade is

Carter, Heurter, Lyles, ‘27 top 4 protected pick

for

Grant, Banton

How do you feel about this?

you sure seem to have a thing for Carter

I've never seen him play but statistically he sure looks like another 6'2-6'3 SG with poor PG skills. Been there/done that

I'd rather keep Banton; Kings keep Carter and do a simpler 1-for-2 trade with the pick coming back

Devin Carter is so good. I’d be shocked if they traded him, but I guess most GMs retain ‘25 picks at all costs. Note that the Blazers did ‘not’ work out Carter (but ‘did’ work out McCain); perhaps because of Carter’s range squarely in between 7 and 14.

“Elsewhere in the frontcourt, forward Jerami Grant has drawn consistent trade interest since signing a five-year, $160 million contract, but there’s been a difference in opinion on his value. Portland has been unwilling to trade Grant without two first-round picks in return, while interested teams have only been willing to consider parting with one first-round pick. Some teams also view Grant’s contract as a neutral asset." - Michael Scotto

I'll happily take a good first rounder and a shit contract.

Joe is like that dude in ur fantasy league that sends you lopsided bullshit trades and acts like he’s doing you a favor.

Two FRP for Grant at 160million is delusional.

One FRP would be a massive win and Cronin should pull the trigger before those offers go away.

Cronin is nuts if he's demanding two first's for Grant. And that's what we've been hearing for a few months now

Seems like a Blazer thing to do, we hold onto Grant until he has zero value then trade him in 2028 for a 38 year old Rudy Gobert or such.

After tonight's game I would trade em to spaceX as a crew going to Mars.

Cronin traded Norman Powell (and Robert Covington) for:

Justise Winslow (G-league Wisonsin Herd), Eric Bledsoe (Shanghai Sharks) , Keon Johnson (still in the NBA making about $2 million) and a 2025 2nd-round pick.

Here's Norman Powell's box score for tonight's game:

Cronin traded Josh Hart to the Knicks for basically Kris Murray. Here's Hart's box score for tonight, a triple-double.

Cronin should have no trouble shipping off Simons and Ayton for nothing, which would be good value compared to those trades.

I'll just say this, every deadline and draft day that Cronin has managed has been really disappointing at the time. The one time that hindsight has made Joe look better was this last draft. So I'm expecting to be pissed on February 6th but I'm hoping that I'm either wrong to be like I think I was about Clingan or that Joe surprises me and we've made a definitive turn towards our youngest, most promising players and have some assets in return for the vets getting in the way of this rebuild.

If we can trade away Grant and Ant I'm on board with flipping Ayton for CJ. Similar contracts but a way better person and teammate. I'd be good with him as a vet on a rebuilding team if he was the only ball dominant one and we didn't have any of Ant Grant Ayton here.

I just really want to see all of Grant Ant Ayton gone ASAP.

Can't figure out any Ayton/Nurkic deals... maybe something along these lines

Maybe just cut the Suns out of that deal.

The Bulls seem like a stupid franchise that could chase a ball dominant player like Simons. Would be great if we can somehow get our pick back, maybe flip them some 2nds or such.

Has Carter even played an NBA minute?

Cronin has gotten fleeced by GM’s. Which in turn makes me believe the GM fraternity never wants to get fleeced by him.

At this point getting zero return on Simons and Grant would be a net positive.

I’ve said for a long time building through the draft is this franchises only hope.
