The one in Finland used to be the Playboys. Not the one he currently plays for in Italy (because every Italian is a playboy, by birth, so stating it would be redundant).

I found this in an old TrueHoop column:

Petteri Koponen, the 6-5 Finnish point guard who was a 2007 first-round pick of the Portland Trail Blazers, has signed a four-year deal with Virtus Bologna of Italy.

His agent, Marc Cornstein, says the deal has buyouts every summer which would make it possible for Koponen to return to the NBA. The Blazers can continue to hold Koponen's rights until 2011, although it will cost them some flexibility under the salary cap to do so.

I didn't recall that the Blazers would lose their rights to him after this summer. I thought as long as he continued to play professionally in another league, they retained their rights indefinitely.

Virtus Bologna combo guard Petteri Koponen released an interview to a Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, saying that Virtus Bologna may sell him at the end of the season.

'It's very likely, that Bologna will sell me next summer. Just suitable, because my contract expires with them in 2012.''

It's probable that Koponen will play in Europe instead of Portland or some other NBA-team.

''Two EL-teams have tried to buy me during this season.'' According to rumours the other team is Unicaja Malaga.

''My game is getting better and better, but I still haven't fully recovered from my injury.''

I guess the Blazers are probably just trying to decide whether to bring him over this summer or not. Given the probably lockout, I'm not sure that he has much of a shot at playing for Portland next year.

As others have alluded to, but didn't go all the way: When the Blazers drafted Petteri, his team was the "Playboys," hence many of us used to call him "Playboy Pete."
