Too, I don't see a whole lot of improvement between this season and the last. You can say oh the Blazerd had 8 more wins, but really they could gave just as easily had 49 the season before, had close games and games they should have won gone the other way. Playoffs same result.

I don't care to go back and find the tweet, but I find it interesting that both Evan and Moe - pretty much the only players who have played under someone besides Terry - mentioned that our offense relies almost entirely on Dame/CJ. Harkless expressed this sentiment at the beginning of the season, and Turner expressed it in his exit interview.

I'm disappointed that the Blazers didn't announce when the Division Championship parade is.

If I was a reporter in the exit interviews I would have asked him that after he touted it.

Olshey: Blazers had a great season. 8 more wins. Thats marked improvement. NW division champions. Can't ask for much more. Whats 4 playoff games?

Me: Neil, when is the NW Division championship parade scheduled for?

Being really good in the regular season is like being really good at foreplay; it’s a good thing to be good at, and will get you to the next step in style. Unfortunately, and this metaphor should please a few folks here, we were four-pump chumps when it counted.
When I, errrrr I mean people I don't know, have performance issues I would "guess" that a good strategy is to tout the foreplay skills and spend extra time doing foreplay so when the four pump chump thing happened it wouldn't seem as bad.

This is exactly what is happening. Olshey is trying to have us remember the expensive dinner and the romantic walk on the beach during sunset and not the 30 seconds it took to climax when the clothes came off.

Hearing Neil talk just reinforces the idea that he has no creativity when building a roster. I think he honestly thinks “what do you expect me to do?”.

I expect him to do his fucking job

Why didnt these reporters ask real questions? Let them both off far to easy. Hammer them....they want stories right?

I think Neil is just trying to slither under the radar until Turner and Meyers are off the books, and I think PA is really going to give him those 2 extra years for some reason.

I know I'm in the extreme minority here but I would like to see what Olshey actually does this summer and not just base my thinking off of events that haven't even occurred yet. I still think they skirted the tax the last two years knowing this year they were going all-in. If I'm wrong about that then I'll be right with you guys in September. If I'm right though Olshey has several avenues between the draft pick, tax-MLE, and the two trade exceptions to improve the roster. The fact that he still has a job to me signifies that he has been ordered to get below the tax line based on the teams performance the last two seasons up until the trade deadline. If Allen expects the team to "get better" then the only true way to accomplish that this summer is to go into the tax.

Yeah He'll never admit his fuckup. Neither will Stotts. Terry calling Evan a pivotal piece of the roster heading into the future, Jesus

But what about the things that have occurred? That's enough.

I have followed my local NBA team, wherever I have lived, since 1971. I have been through a number of GMs. Not one ever praised himself. The team-employed broadcaster might, keeping it subtle and indirect. But Olshey roars like a lion in self-praise.

If he were smart, he'd have Calabro or Wheeler run events like today, and make himself and Stotts scarce.

Rockets GM Darryl Morey said he's the most underrated GM in the league. I like Olshey too and aren't as down on him as others here. People keep talking about him being lucky by making the acquisitions he did. Stop the what ifs. He got a huge steal in Nurk. He drafted Dame and CJ. He trade for Collins. That's not to say he hasn't made mistakes. He has. But, I'd like to keep him another season with a different coach. We desperately need a different coach.

I think it depends on how you feel about Collins. If you are excited about his potential then this year was an improvement because we had a better record while getting decent minutes down the stretch from a rookie. If you think he has little potential to be a solid starter then, yeah maybe this year was not better.

Same for Nurk, because even though we had him last year it was only for 20 games and that is not long enough to truly evaluate a player. Nurk got a lot more consistent IMO.

My point is although the result was the same, it seems better because we added younger players and still won more games. I can't include Baldwin because he barely played but he could be a steal. Now we need to steal a SF who can score and has good handles.

See I thought he was talking about the sacrifices of what it takes to be an elite NBA player in terms of improving your game over the summer. The work that goes into being a good NBA player is a sacrifice. I think you're reading too much into that word.
To Sly’s point: A sacrifice is something a person does that they are NOT rewarded for, that incurs some negative outcome to the person doing it, and which is generally for the selfless benefit of someone else. The work C.J. puts in will result in him playing a game we all love and ultimately being paid what, 100 million dollars or so? Some sacrifice. Where do I sign up for that? Fuck CJ if he’s so fucking self centered he’s crying about the work required to do his job and be paid more in one year than most of us will earn in our entire lives. I’m sick of professional athletes crying about their “sacrifice”. If it’s such a god damned sacrifice, I hear Burger King is hiring.

I do not agree. I would prefer to retain CJ and trade Lillard.

Why didnt these reporters ask real questions? Let them both off far to easy. Hammer them....they want stories right?

The reporters there had gotten into the habit of simple, dumb questions, due to brief interviews of a bunch of dumb players.

Then the 2 smart guys appeared, and it was hard to suddenly change the interview style.

This day showed why Olshey makes the big bucks. With most teams, end-of-season interviews get no media. It was sheer genius to wear us all down, watching 20 players do meaningless identical interviews, so that we would hardly pay attention to the final Olshey and Stotts interview.

So what exactly is that? It wasn't that long ago that this team missed the playoffs 6 straight seasons. It also wasn't that long ago that this franchise had two top 6 picks have career ending injuries. There is no excuse for getting swept as the 3 seed in the playoffs, it sucks. At the same time there a lot of teams that would kill to have a GM with the resume that Olshey has.

After drafting Drexler, this team only made it out of the 1st round (lost in the 2nd round that one time) once until going to the Finals in 1990. In fact in 1989, Drexler's 6th season like this one for Dame, the Blazers got swept out of the playoffs in the 1st round. It was their 4th straight 1st round exit and at that time their record was 4-16 in their last 20 playoff games. Does this sound familiar? Do you wish they would've traded Drexler and Porter and Kersey then? They did change from coaches during the 88-89 season. Maybe that is what needs to happen here.

I'm not saying this team is destined to make the Finals next year, just that teams usually take time to come together and each year you continue to build. I'm sure if this site existed back then we would have all been in here questioning if Drexler would ever have playoff success. The playoffs pissed me off this year but I like what Olshey has tried to do to add the missing pieces so far (almost impossible to do in one year) and will only change that stance if he fails to improve the team this summer.

10 straight playoff losses.

It's clear we arent moving forward. He's made us move backwards. Great regular season team with no clue how to win in the playoffs in the last several years without help.

Forgive me if I don't exactly trust a guy who sells me a car that craps out when I really need it.

Heard that had there been a game 5 neither Damian or CJ were for sure able to play due to injuries

I'm almost in on everything you're saying except that we lost in the Finals, losing 3 straight at home. We didn't exactly celebrate that year. I'm glad we're not going to overreact. Some people want to fire Stotts without a better coach in mind. And lots of people want big trades for the sake of big trades. Lots of people would be happy reading CJ regardless of the return. Just change for the sake of change. He tried to get us Paul George. They said no. They tried to get Melo and I maintain he would've played well for us. Trading CJ for Barnes would be awful. Would the difference between Barnes and Aminu be so great that we'd be fine with Pat or Wade at starting SG? Besides, if Dame/CJ doesn't work, why would Dallas want Dennis/CJ?
