Before a few days ago, there was no chance that Portland would trade Damian Lillard for Scottie Barnes.
To me, that means there's a chance.
It is interesting to me when people speak so definitively. We definitely saw a lot of it in the months before Dame requested a trade.

I don't know that Toronto would trade Barnes, but at least the podcast chatter with the Raptors guys made it sound like they'd be open to it.

Barnes is mine. I think he's the perfect combination of age, position, size and skills to be a long term fit with the Blazers and our young back court.

Dunno if he's available or not, but he's my guy of the moment.
If you like Barnes, consider Anthony Black on Orlando. Three-way with New York and Orlando - Lillard to NY, Jalen Brunson to Orlando, Black (and change) to Portland.

Anthony Black should definitely be on the list.

Ironic that I'm about the only one on this board who hasn't convinced themselves that Jovic is the second coming

I'm not that hyped on him either. Solid offensive skills, but defensively, he might be in real trouble.

Barnes is a lot longer than Black... he has a 7.25 inch larger wingspan and 5.5 inch higher vertical reach while being 1.25 inches taller. He also weighed 15 pounds more at the combine. The two guys are just built differently, and I think Barnes can hold up at the 3 while I don't see Black being able to. I guess we'll see, but I don't think Black is the same level of prospect that Barnes is, although he is 2.5 years younger so he totally might be and we just haven't seen it yet.

Not in any meaningful order:

Anthony Black
Nick Claxton
Jeremy Sochan
Scottie Barnes
Herb Jones / Trey Murphy III
Jaylen Brown
Taylor Hendricks

Claxton from Brooklyn. He would be an anchor for 10 years. Send them Nurk in a Dame trade. Get expirings, one or both rookies, draft picks and call it good. I would even take on Simmons to make the deal work as long as Claxton is in the deal. Simmons can play the 3, or go on sabbatical. Claxton will be incredible with Scoot/Shae. Seriously, game changing incredible. Next years draft is loaded with sf's. Get one there. Barnes is good, Claxton is a must.

Good points.

Anthony Edwards from the Wolves...he's going to be a superstar but he just signed a 5 year deal so that's off the table until the deadline
Giannis...first choice every time if I'm swapping a superstar for a superstar now.

That sounds really good.

And if Portland can't send Dame to Brooklyn, I want him in Philly for Maxey as the center piece, then flip Maxey to Brooklyn for, you guessed it, Claxton and one of their rookies, pick, whatever is deemed fair value for Maxey

I don't think your Maxey deal is even as good as what Miami is offering. I think Miami can get Herro to Brooklyn and possibly get you Claxton and possibly even take Nurk off of our hands.

If we are going to make a move with Philly it would have to be a four team move with Maxey going somewhere and that team giving us good value for him and Harden going somewhere and that team giving us good value for him. Otherwise we're going to get less than what I'm sure Miami is already offering.

This.

Claxton + Triple S for 10+ years.

The #1 pick in the 2025 draft! Is that too much to ask for?

Not in any meaningful order:

A year ago this would've been 95-5 No. The lack of progress in certain areas has made some fans impatient. Ujiri can be ruthless and he'd trade Scottie for a championship unless he thought Scottie could get him more than one.

I will make this easy:

Duncan mutherfukin Robinson

you know that’s Joe’s trophy

That's interesting. I agree that perception has shfted... Barnes just wasn't that great this year, and the Siakam/OG/Barnes core doesn't seem to make that much sense given how mediocre they were this past year. Now they need a PG (Schroder? Hah) and Dame had his best season ever. Also, teams like the 76ers and Celtics didn't appear invincible...

So, yeah. Move salary and Barnes. Plug in Dame with OG, Siakam, and Poeltl and they win the East.

If I were a Raptors fan, I would definitely consider it.

You guys just need more small forwards man. That's your key to success.
