Well, at least the Blazers will be rested. The Lakers definitely had the advantage of fresher legs the last three games. I doubt it will make too much difference in the outcome, but at least the teams will be on even rest schedule.
No Dame? I say sit em all. Start Gabriel, Whiteside, Mario, the G-League guy and Ant. Let em play 48 minutes and lets get ready for next season. No need for somebody to get injured here.

"The G-League guy"?

If you're playing guys who won't be here next year, might as well throw Melo in there.

No. You don’t quit in the playoffs. Regular season, maybe, or if we fall behind 40 in the third but with the score at 0-0, you always go for a playoff win.

First i was gonna say that fan interest in this game 5 was falling off; then I went back to the main page to see if there was a new game thread and there it was with 97 replies and I'm thinking, well, people are excited. Then I clicked on it and got here again, in the dead zone. :)

It will pick up tomorrow.

Where is Nike? Adidas? Coke? Gatorade? Etc?

The players have an opportunity to place pressure on these companies to be an extended voice - but I’m not seeing or hearing it.

Growing up I was always moved by those Coke television ads; you know the one with Mean Joe Green and the little kid sharing his Coke and Green tosses him his jersey! Or the “be like Mike” commercials and popular jingle we were all singing. Or Nike’s “Just Do It” campaign that inspired everyone.

Is there not a powerful and positive series of campaigns that might move us to sing together...offer real love and see change? LeBron et al have leverage with their sponsors. What if they demanded a creative and financial commitment by these companies to promote positive and powerful change? I’m 59 and white. Married to an Hispanic that does not cause panic; (I actually live in Mexico) and my brother-in-law of 25 years is African American. I’d much rather sing along to a cool jingle that promotes equality over what is happening today. Statements don’t always have to be controversial. It only puts people on the defensive and nobody can get past their own ignorance when defensive. I believe that real change will take place once we begin to love one another. To this, boy, I heard Julie Jackson, Blake Jacob’s Mom speak yesterday! She is one strong individual and we all need to hear her message. We all need to make significant efforts to love one another. Now! And please, I am not trying to oversimplify. It’s so obvious that, for one thing, there needs to be major change in law enforcement training, recruitment and accountability. Our oldest daughter is a Royal Canadian Mounted Police as is her husband. I talk with them often and I can report that we are at a crossroads. In Canada, the RCMP training is a 26-week camp and classroom program. And my kids admit that even 26 weeks did not prepare them for what they face on a daily basis. I for one would like to see a 2-4 year University-like program. Educate, train, and provide our law enforcement officers with the tools necessary to function and respond properly. My fear however is that we’ll never see real change while we permit law enforcement and politicians stay on the job long past their primes. It makes sense to me, because society changes, that the tenure of a cop should only be 12 -15 years. And it’s long time we institute term limits for our politicians. Last week and this week i’ve been listening to the convention speeches. I’m enjoying listening to what the young speakers are saying but I’ve had enough of anyone over 70! Our youngsters are going to have to take charge. The old farts and their prejudices have to go. My advice to our youth: be kind. Be practical / pragmatic. Let love guide words, thoughts, decisions, and actions. You will win people over.

Thanks for permitting me to rant. Like you, I’m frustrated and don’t have the answers. I simply wish we could all could find a better day.

Great post and great points!

anyone know if they will just start the bench and tank or try to win? I guess the former since dame left for home.

Try to win. Dame hasn’t been counted out for rest of playoffs yet and he’s not having surgery. Even if he is out for season, we have legit weapons in CJ/Melo/Nurk so you go for the win.

A number of people including me would like to see them just play the end of bench and let this happen without the possibility of injury to a starter. But my guess is you will not see that. They will go full strength minus Dame and see how things look at the half.

Even if we are packing it in, which I doubt will be Stotts' or the players' strategy we can't just play the bench, let alone start them. I'm pretty sure the bench is only five guys.... You can't just run 5 players for 48 minutes of the game. That's not considering the likelihood that because he's playing a lot of minutes Wenyen will foul out, that would mean at least one starter will be playing in the fourth quarter. Basically because Olshey didn't fill two roster spots he could have filled and we lost 3 players to injury, this is a total shit show. So, the team will come out with the best lineup and rotation possible and will likely, regardless of the score, go hard for three quarters. The reason being that I don't think 5 guys at least one of which is foul prone can play even an entire second half no matter the score. I also think with Stotts being the players coach he is that he will want to give CJ a chance to really shine as the focal point of the offense for most of the game again regardless of score. So that's a solid no to your question since I'm pretty sure it's going to be impossible to do that.

Are you so sure playing hungry young guys with relatively fresh legs gives us a WORSE chance to win? There is also the question of accountability. The regulars just sucked their way to a 20 point loss. If Stotts wants to coach this team next year (if there is a next year) maybe it is time for him to send a message by benching a few players?

My opinion is you go with the strongest line up possible. You don't give up.; But when it potentially reaches a deep enough hole , you bench them(for the second half) and go with the youngsters. I agree with Eric though. When starting a game you always go with your best punch.

Welcome to the board BTW.

Thanks. An interesting bunch of fans!

What hungry young guys are you talking about? Adams, Hoard, and Wenyen, I guess? Simons has been playing and doesn’t look hungry at all. Mario has been a part of the rotation and meh at best. GT2 is the youngest and hungriest of them all and he has already been playing heavy minutes. Who are you even thinking of? As it was discussed, can Wenyen play 20 minutes, let alone 48, without fouling out?

And as for hungry, I don’t think anyone is more hungry for a championship than Melo. Nurk & CJ are ridge behind him.

Curious. Considering the passing of Cliff Robinson and the technical fact that tonight is a home game, do the Blazers do something special for Cliff as limited as it may be in the bubble? Maybe a moment of silence? This news must weigh on the team at least a bit i would think? Could it have a “win one for Cliff” type effect?

The biggest disappointment for me by far is Nurkic. If you take Kanter off last year's team and replace him with Nurkic I doubt we'd have been any better at all. Who knows, we could have been worse, pretending we have a rim protector instead of knowing we had one of the worst defending centers in the league and playing accordingly.

You’re joking right?

You have no idea what you’re talking about. After 16 months off, he’s been a revelation.

I have to admit. This is the least excited ive been to watch a game since we acquired Dame.

Between the politics in the game, Dame’s injury, the way we were manhandled with Dame for the last Two and a half games...
I dunno. Ill watch, but zero expectations Nd little excitement.
Very tough to get motivated for this. Will i even dawn my typical Blazer gear?

ugh.
Go Blazers........

Jusuf in seeding games 18/10/4/1.5/2. He slowed down vs Lakers but he’s still been good. In first quarter of Game 1. He had 10/10/3.
