Like the fire department? Or our roads?

What for-profit essential services are better than universal?

Well, you left quite a few things out. Food production is necessary for survival, should we collectivize farming like Stalin did? Clothing is essential, as is shelter, energy (point of original post), telecommunications...

It's not that it's inherently bad to pay for something via taxes. But statements like "services essential to living should be state-run without profit motive" seem to miss the fact that communism has been an utter failure everywhere it's been tried. And I think a lot of people on the left are secret or not so secret admirers of the idea.

It was successful when it was being used... contacts with addiction services went up exponentially due to Measure 110. Now it's not being used because we've changed the law, but there is still a contract. We chose this inefficiency when we changed measure 110. It was inevitable.

That said, there is more than enough money in Measure 110 to cover it. But like anything, trying to be more strict and punish more people is nearly always less efficient, a complete waste of time and money, and as often as not causes more harm than doing nothing.

Make any government service as shitty as possible so we can argue that it doesn't work.

That is the the "centrist" and "republican" way.

It's good to have accountability and a transparent plan that can be measured. What gets measured gets done. And, if you dont know where you are going, you will, end up somewhere else.

Regardless if its government or private if they are not managed properly and not producing positive within the plan and budget, they should be scrutinized and expected to implement an improvement plan.

And they were producing positive results within the plan and the budget before the new changes.

I believe she did. That doesn't mean it's good by default, does it?

She supports a lot of wasteful and harmful stuff, IMO.
Timing was bad imo, with covid putting a burden on local government, and the press /public showing panic with the overdose's and homelessness on the rise. But, the implication of the program didn't go well with funds and government slow to execute. In order to implement such a significant plan there needs to great coordination and accountability to execute and change for improvement along the way. Not sure that was the case?

You can't get great coordination among that many people. It needs to be super simple to work. Anything else just turns into excessive waste.

It was simple and the centrist and conservatives didn't like that. So they fought it every step of the way and told lies about it until they got support to make it more complicated.

They have jobs, but no homes. Inside America’s unseen homelessness crisis.

Good thing our military personnel fought for America, so that one day, even our homeless could work, eh. Wouldn't want our homeless to feel like unproductive citizens, after all. That'd be a national shame, that none of us, could ever live down.

Tina said it herself that there needs to be improved coordination and accountability. She signed the bill. I agree that there needs to be some simplicity for ant roll out but there needs to be a w ay to measure the effectiveness for improvements needed along the way. I hate Government Waste or where the hell did the money go.

Again, I don't care what Tina said.

The money was helping. It had literally just hit the streets the year prior to the measure being changed. You can't get that much money collected and distributed any faster than that. And Portland had been largely cleaned up, even in that short time.

Now we see fewer people even using the hotline. But that's awesome. At least we can give sick people misdemeanors and arrest them now and there is no requirement to actually help them. Though there is the OPTION for cities and counties to drop the misdemeanor if they want to stop extracting money from those poor individuals. Yeah right.

So that's good.

If you didn't see where the money from 110 was going then you didn't spend any time in the impacted areas. The improvement was substantial.

The important thing is now police can harass anybody they want again and give them misdemeanors that can tie them up in the system for years and completely destroy their lives, or maybe lead to them being shot if the police get jumpy.

But that's far more exciting than just using the money to help the people, like measure 110 allowed for.

This is not a prediction. Just an observation of the downward trend. The entire world is void of common sense, on many, many levels.

As an individual, I feel helpless. Sure we can try to improve some areas. But we face so many chalenges, complicated by political battles, and tunnel vision people pushing agendas. The world is controled by leaders and influencers driven by greed and lust for power. The end result does not look promising.

Hope this trend reverses. But as insurance, I am increasing and updating my prepper supplies.

Not only ordering more food and supplies that have a long storage life. But also replacing older batteries in my solar system.

Hope the world wakes up. But if not. I will be prepared. Sadly, even this may not be enough.

House of Representatives shockingly managed to pass a bill to provide relief to low income Americans. It had majority support in Senate, but Senate Republicans blocked it because they don't want to give Biden a win.

Israel is spending money to affect our U.S. elections. I don't see how this should be allowed.

This is a technique republicans have done quite a bit in the last decade: running conservatives as Democrats, then having them switch parties once they've won.
I think places like California (cough Portland cough) are seeing a vacuum where it’s devoid of sane leadership. Average people are realizing they aren’t happy with living in a failed liberal fairytale that has now devolved into a dystopian nightmare. People who generally voted Democrat their entire lives are finding themselves disenfranchised by psychotic ideas like sexual conversion for children, apathy (or outright support) for “minor attracted persons” or rampant crime with no mitigation.
It’s really no surprise there are semi-sane democrats stepping up to defend classic democratic ideas without all the degeneracy people are getting sick of.

I'm impressed you spent more than 14 words on your response.
