Y'know, I think we are thinking about this candidate question all wrong.

What does an NBA team do when they need a new coach? Sure, sometimes they promote from the assistant coaching ranks, but more often they hire from a different team.
Let's hire from a different team. Let's hire someone we know can get the best of Trump, and also get huge support from the likes of beast and jonnyboy.

You know what I'm saying. Vladimir Putin should be our next Democratic nominee for President!

The problem with that is the VP has no duties, and the President would be unlikely to give them any, other than a 4 year trip to East Bumfuck.

It's going to have to get really bad for anybody to want to make any changes from here on out. It's going to take a lot.

I'm not going to give up hope that it can be fixed. I know for sure it will take better candidates. It will take a much better platform. It will take a populist who's actually good as a person. Somebody who knows the ins and outs of all of the policies they are proposing. Who is a great speaker. A great debater. And who can antagonize the right into actually debating rather than running away from debates the way Trump did.

Maybe a Pete Buttigieg can do that? Is he actually good? I was disappointed with the way he threw his support behind Biden in 2020... Seemed like just another power hungry politician seeking the support of lobbyists...

I don't think Gavin Newsom would be much of a change from Biden. So we'd be stuck in the same situation, only it would be worse because we're going to lose so much over the next 4 years.

I agree with you. I just think we lost because Democrats weren't offering anything. They haven't been for years.

These probably aren't the guys. Buttigieg seems perfect if he weren't beholden to big lobbies, but I think too many people would hold being gay against him.

It'll take the perfect candidate. Obama but better.

Yeah, there is those darn lobbies. Minus that he is a great candidate and I would highly consider voting for him. I think people might hold it against him too, and that sucks. They clearly won't elect a woman. They will probably also have issues with a gay candidate.

Obama but better would be perfect. Where do we find that guy?

The DNC would have to want to find that guy. But they are beholden to lobbyists. So they're going to run from young straight Bernie/Pete/Barack and bury them under the Joe Manchin ticket.

I can them see trying to run Manchin or Newsome. I think it's the wrong the direction and more of the same.

If anything is going to bring change to the Democratic party though its four more years of Donald and his fascist bullshit. Hopefully, the wake up call is heeded this time.
 
I’m honestly confused as to how people legitimately think Trump will somehow keep fair and open elections going, now that he has control of all three branches of government including the courts. Why are you thinking about 2028 like this is the offseason of a sporting event?

Joe Manchin is 77 years old. In addition to the fact that everyone in the Democratic party hates him.

He might get a job in Trump's cabinet, perhaps. He's not going to be running for President as a Democrat.

Oh you bet they are going to Gerrymander, pass laws to subvert the vote, put loyal people in more positions of power, and whatever other dirty shit they have to in order to keep majority and grow it.

I like him. He has no chance. Any other civilized country maybe, but not here. One of the reasons Kamala lost is younger male MAGA voters have increased. Young males in this country are listening to Rogan, Fuentes, and Andrew Tate. I have a son in college. He said I wouldnt believe how Trumpy it is. Vote MAGA = manly. Trot out Buttigieg and you have no chance. USA! If the dems want to win next time around, they better start looking for a very white, strong, male.

Are the democrats just going to run a strong man? People didn’t vote for Trump out of disgust for his platform you know. Running a white guy isn’t enough now. What progressive platform is going to be tough enough to win against naked racist hate? Because that’s now the competing product.

Well obviously they need a solid candidate outside of his physical traits. I am saying the country is clearly shifting back to the white/male requirements for Presidency. Obama was a one-off. Since then, the rest of white conservative America has proven they are not OK with that. Pete Buttigieg will not regain the young white male vote. Or hispanic vote. They'll need a straight white man to have a chance. America.

I don’t disagree with any of this; but beware of how the goalposts will shift over the next four years. I don’t think a Democrat will be president under this constitution again.

I am not quite (im getting close) that doomsday yet. I still think Trump has a cult following, and when the leader of the cult dies/goes away, the MAGA party will have to shift. Will there be another Trump? He is a special kind of idiot and hard to imagine people getting excited for his successor. It aint JD Vance. Trump came in as a celebrity - instantly grabbing a lot of dummies attention. Then he became a MAGA overlord. He also has gotten credit for things I do not think he had any influence over - and when all those "great things" people claim to miss now, dont happen again, then what? Trust me, i think the country is irreparably damaged because of him and his following. But I am not sure the country cant turn on a dime on him when the time comes. Also, he will die. So whoever comes next has to have the allure of Trump. Not sure who that is.

it’ll be Elon Musk, obviously. They will change the rules so immigrants can be president; they nearly did it for Arnie when he was ascendant. It’ll be trivial for Trump.
