The six MAGA Supreme Court justices attended Trump's state dinner last night. Today they eliminated what was left of voting rights act.
In Louisiana, 40% of voting population is Black but racial gerrymandering packed Black population into one Congressional district. A lawsuit resulted in redrawing maps to create second predominantly Black district. Republicans sued, charging discrimination against white people by using race to determine districts. Which segregationists did for a century and still do.
After lower courts upheld new map, Supreme Court overturned it.
Already Florida plans redistricting to create four new Republican seats. Tennessee plans to redo districts to eliminate Memphis district, the one majority Black district. Mississippi had already under court order changed State Supreme Court districts, now plans to go back to all white districts.
The 1965 Voting Rights Act was passed to end Supreme Court decisions at the end of Reconstruction, which were intended to end Black political power and institutionalize racism.
This court had done it again.
