Let's measure the divide. Pro-Billups posters seem to think this is all a storm in a teacup. They may well be right, but let's take the board's temperature.

If the fanbase doesn't start showing positive support for this team then guys like Dame and Norm are going to bail....this thread is just ripping off another bandaid and really....what's the point?

obviously, it can go both ways, but i think chauncey billups has all the right ingredients to become successful head coach and im excited to see what he has in store for this team

regarding his past, we dont know if he raped that woman or not, only couple of persons know that: chauncey, that woman & his friend or colleague that was there with them and obviously god, so its wrong to call him a rapist when he might be innocent, but its also wrong to call him innocent (it wouldnt be fair to that woman if he really raped her), so im gonna stay abstained and even if he did raped her, he escaped justice in this world, but he wont escape justice on a judgment day!

also, if we knew for a fact that chauncey raped that woman, then id be pissed that my team hired a rapist, cause in that case, i only imagine if that was my mother, sister or any other relative or a friend or a neighbour or a person i dont know at all, rape is just something thats wrong as it gets and everyone who does that, should face death penatly!

The team is at this pivotal crossroads. I was hopeful that we would have a great summer. Hire a good coach. Trade CJ for a piece that makes sense. Obviously that can still happen, but we also kicked things off by causing a shit storm controversy that seems to have increased the wedge between Dame/the team/the city. This is not how I wanted to start our offseason. And I just really don't understand how they didn't know there would be a backlash. Did they not see the reaction to Jason Kidd? Well, Kidd's transgressions were more well known, but did they really not think that Billups' past wouldn't spread like wildfire?

Dames reaction?

I think Lillard getting bashed online by “fans” for a hire by the GM and owner, of another guy who was accused of but never charged with sexual assault, in 1997, might bother him

Probably should have seen the backlash coming. He did want both Kidd (a convicted drunk driver and wife beater)and Billups (an accused rapist)(is the Kidd hiring getting backlash?)

The Blazers should have seen it coming too. Jody probably did. Why she wanted Hammon

I think it's a combo of confused and the reaction of "fans" on twitter is confusing.

I just want to be crystal clear that the people who hate Billups also hate Jerome Kersey right. And those girls were 15-16. All these years prior to his death don’t recall blazer fans up in arms every time he was on tv, or part of the Blazers, community outreach etc.

You realize that most of the fans on twitter/social media who are attacking Dame probably weren't even alive back when Kersey was on the team, right?

Some for sure. Some not. Some of the journalists who are bashing this better fucking know who he is, and people in here better know too.

Honestly, I was pretty young during the Drexler/Kersey/Porter era. I think I was in like 2nd or 3rd grade when we were in the Finals. I don't remember anything. I definitely didn't read the newspaper. What happened with Jerome?

My only real memory about Jerome at that time was him signing autographs at the Thriftway over off Multnomah blvd.

I don't care about the sjw backlash twitterpating. He was a defensive minded player that played with scrappy teams. Gritty. This team needs that. If he ends up gone in the three years, oh well, it's worth a shot. I'm optimistic. But I'm a seasoned Blazer fan who knows that future disappointment is also highly likely. Let's do this.

Boy, is this not relatable. This should just be the motto for being a Blazers fan.

Man...... father of the year right here

The father of one of the 16-year-old girls said Thursday he was pleased with Yocom's decision because his daughter still maintains she was not raped.

"It's a shame they were cruising for girls and that they got girls that were too young," he said. "But it'd be a shame to ruin (players') careers because of an indiscretion."

He was pleased to learn the team had suspended and fined the players, however. "My concern is that we do something to stop this from happening again," he said, adding that his daughter has recovered from the incident.

My perception of Kersey, Murray, etc and Malone are forever changed. Disgusting. They should have all been banned from the NBA and sent to jail. Terrible.

Had you not heard the Malone thing before? It comes up quite often in places like Reddit.

It sounds like the girls lied about their ages.... but still.....

The girls were watching TV in one of the rooms when the conversation turned to sex, the 15-year-old said. The girls told the players they had had sex before. One girl said she was 19 years old and the others said they were 17.

At some point, one of the 16-year-olds had sex with a player, then left with the other girls. The same girl later called the same player and asked if they could stay with the players that night because they had missed their ride home.

"He said, `What's in it for me?' " Yocom explained. At least two of the three girls offered sex and the player agreed.

The 15-year-old told the News she fell asleep in one of the bedrooms and later woke to see a Trail Blazer and one girl "getting busy. I faked like I was asleep because I was so embarrassed," she said.

The two girls spent the balance of the evening in the room, said Yocom. The other 16-year-old stayed in another room and said she had sexual relations with three players. She told the News, however, that she had sex with four players during the evening.

She said she enjoyed having sex and didn't want charges filed against the men "because they were just looking to have fun and I told them I was 19." One of the players told her he was coming back to Salt Lake City for another game and asked, "How am I supposed to get a hold of you when we come back in April?" she said.

There is a bit of a double standard especially locally for each case.

I like the hire, really do, but all the crap bums me out. Especially those who hammer Dame. They asked him who he liked, he responded. Now some want to indict him as if he did wrong. TOTAL B.S. I really like Chauncey, think he's a good dude, and great basketball mind. I believe in second chances. He's been a stellar citizen in the Denver Community. That doesn't excuse rape, EVER! Sexual Assault is never OK. Nobody, Ever!, has it coming. But Chauncey has said, his part in this was consensual. And while there was a settlement, there were no charges against him filed. There are only 2 people who know the truth. So i am going to support him to the fullest as Blazers Coach. And wish him the Very Best in rip city!
