If the Blazers were to somehow miraculously get up off the mat and fight back to a game 7..... they might keep him. But the team has looked SO bad that anything less than that is probably not enough.

Sigh!

I can't not think of a reason to keep Stotts. Many reasons not to keep him, but what will Allen do? He would already be gone if the owner wanted a winner. I am afraid the owner is making money and the Stott's price is in that game.

Really the ridiculous argument is the one you just made. Players do not perform at that level for a coach they dislike. Do you really want me to give you instances? Really? Through the years how many coaches lost their teams and lost everything. Go ahead. Fire Stotts and hire Rivers. See what that gets you.

I agree with @BonesJones. Players don't like a winning coach, they respect him. The Spurs players don't like pops, they respect him, they are scared of him. That's how it should be. The Lakers players didn't like Phil Jackson. Hey at least Rivers will yell at the refs

Stotts is gone. Someone has to take responsibility for this giant stinking pile of shit, and that will be Sotts

Stotts has allowed the inmates to run the asylum. Dame and CJ have zero accountability. I love those guys, but they have the greenest of green lights, and it hurts the team. We have a horrible assist percentage. They take bad shots. They don't pass the ball. They don't look for the open teammate, and that's how you get the shitty offense that we have right now against NOP. They swarm Dame and we just crumble.

The problem is.. Our set offense doesn't provide anything better. All ball movement occurs in scramble situations where players are fully improvising, as there's little to no structure or principals put in place to facilitate ball movement.

We're more talented than people think. Nurk played like an All-NBA Center over the 2nd half of the season on both sides of the floor. 21ppg per 36min on around 55% shooting. CJs still a great scorer, and Dames probably a top 6 or 7 offensive player in the league. Moe shot 40% from 3pt. Aminu shot around 40% almost the entire season. You had other guys that could step up off the bench and provide scoring. It was a product of talent, not system.

Then we get to the playoffs and give up on each other. Since Lillard has been a Blazer, other than the Clippers and Houston series, the Blazers have shit the bed, not winning more than a game against teams that eliminated us. Blazers are not a playoff team.

Ok, I've never been a Stotts hater, but the general consensus around here seems to be he's on the brink of being fired.

There are other threads about who his replacement should be, but that's putting the cart before the horse. He hasn't actually been fired yet.

Is it possible he can still save his job? What will it take?

BNM
I think we should put the cart before the horse. I would like to have a line on a potential replacement (coughbudenholzercough) before letting him go.

Whichever, we need to be quick. Looks like the Knicks are going after Budenholzer.

Ah! Anyone that knows basketball.

Houston was coached by a horrible coach in McHale, so it's no surprise that we won. And we needed a miracle shot in Game 6 to avoid going to Houston for Game 7 and that was after winning the first two games on the road because LaMarcus Aldridge had the best two-game stretch of his life. The Clippers? Likely we lose if they stay healthy.

"Entrepreneur and philanthropist Paul G. Allen has owned the Portland Trail Blazers for 29 years, and during that time the Trail Blazers have achieved at levels that few NBA teams have surpassed."

On Paul Allens website. Anyone see anything wrong with this message?

Yeah its a lie

Never said anything about respect. I can promise you these Players at this level do not show respect for a coach they don't like. Players didn't like PJ. PJ just about got his ass killed. CP3 didn't like Doc. He left and the lack of respect has only gotten worse. Do i need to name countless other coaches that Players didn't like.
Oh and i can bet you will never find a Spurs player that doesn't like Pop. Not gonna happen.

Players respect pops cause he rides their asses and makes them better. Stotts doenst make his players better.

Again that is an assumption without merit.
Actually the very opposite can be proven as all his teams seem to over achieve. Just like this year.

Well you can't make Texas Turncoat better

Yeah its a lie
This team this season had 49 wins, a respectable total and exactly the same as the regular season for the Championship team in 1977. The similarity ends right there and vast differences are obvious. The 77 Blazers were coming together as a terrific team, and by the playoffs they were playing team basketball as well as the bests in history of the game. This team got the wins playing hero ball and never did embrace playing basketball. As such they are easy to defend and playoff teams figure that out each year. You can not put the fault anywhere but on the coach, McMillan and now Stotts, each in their turn. Players come and go but our Coaches do not change much. Oh well, the owner is making money.

Imagine actually believing this bullshit.

How many players have had career years in Portland?

Oh wait I know, it’s only because they got more minutes! Nothing to do with coaching. Got it. Saved you dorks the time.

I voted for:

3 - Come back from down 3-0 to force a 7th game and all will be forgiven

That's not what I think SHOULD happen, it's what I think WOULD happen. If Terry can somehow circle the wagons, rally the troops (or maybe make SOME adjustment) win 3 in a row and force a Game 7, Paul and Neil would give him one more chance. They both seem to like the guy, a lot - maybe too much.

BNM

I'm sorry, if we get to Game 7 at home and don't win....

Again, not what I think SHOULD happen, what I think WOULD happen. Paul seems to have a soft spot for Terry. Unless he gets fired before the start of next season, he will have lasted longer than any other coach during the Paul Allen ownership era.

We would have most likely lost the Clippers series with both Blake and Paul playing. Those games weren’t even close in LA. We won game 3 fair and square (it was a close one though) and game 4 was very close when they started getting injured but if we hadn’t gone back to LA we would have struggled again.

I guarantee you Tony Parker didn't like Pops. At least at first.

I guarantee you he RESPECTS him tho.
Now you are trippin.
You cannot guarantee me anything about the way Tony Parker feels about his coach.
Coaches have to hold players accountable sure. But they have to do it the right way. When an NBA player dislikes a coach they start to question what he is telling them to do and when they try to do the things that coach is telling them to do they don't put forth the effort to make those things work. This conversation is about Stotts. At this point there is no question the players are putting forth the effort on the court.
IMO Stotts jobs is safe.

You simply need to go back to all the video where Tony said that himself. :dunno:
