Sigh... As you should be well aware, the VA is part of the government for soldiers that have been injured in the line of duty. This straw man argument is ridiculous.

That is not a strawman. You're RAILING against single payer and that is a single payer plan. My question is valid. Should we throw our soldiers to the Insurance wolves that we've been thrown to? Yes or no. The government decides where they get healthcare. AND they don't have to be injured so WTF are you talking about? Answer the question.

Listen @magnifier661 and @dviss1 , I know you both personally and think you're both awesome! But you two both need to treat each other with just a little more respect when debating and arguing over politics. You both really seem to really enjoy arguing different sides of the same political coin, just imagine how boring it would be if you agreed on everything. Play nice.

Then make deals with insurance companies, give them vouchers, whatever... But you let the people decide on what insurance they want. We aren't communist!

Taht's the fucking point. Insurance companies are OBSOLETE. Thy don't provide healthcare, they take your money and pay for it? WTF for? Why have a private entity that is NOT bound by our constitution making decisions on what care they will cover? Not one person wants or needs insurance. What they need is healthcare. Insurance companies are an unnecessary middle man.

I would much rather the federal government use resources that give vouchers to the vets and do away with the entire VA in general. They treat them like shit anyway. I think that's very American

Single payer isn't even close to communism.

What am I doing? I haven't personally attacked him once since you censored my last post.

I didn't say you did, just pointing out that y0u two really enjoy arguing with each other even if you don't realize it.

But that's not how we do it. We have government doctors and government hospitals. Your version of communism is already alive and kicking. Capitalism has made it so 47MM people have no access to care. These people are driving up healthcare costs by going to emergency and urgent care for issues that could have been prevented. Why is this so hard to understand?

The folks at the VA deserve better than that sort of comment. I'm guessing you're not a vet though.

Not true. 82% of vets are satisfied with the VA. My father-in-law loves his care. He was never injured and never served in a war but he has healthcare at a government hospital by government doctors. Single payer has no bearing on who you go to for care. You can go to any doctor you want and you don't have to wait for a cartel to pay for it for you. YOU are paying for it.

Edit: Oops meant for Mags.

Sorry for the repost. But I wanted Mags to get the alert. :)

Who decides what insurance the people get? Citizens or government?

You don't need insurance.... You would have no insurance... you'd have actual healthcare with no denial of care. We don't need these companies unless they want to cover cosmetic surgery. Private insurance lives right alongside of Single payer in most of those countries anyway.

The VA does the best it can with what very little it is given. Does anyone remember when GW Bush (and the GOP) was gutting VA funding in 2002/2003 even as he was beating the drums for war? His actions created a much bigger caseload who are now fighting over a reduction in services. I definitely agree that veterans get treated like shit in general, especially those who did the actual fighting.

Mags, please do more research. You complain a lot about how much our country spends but when an awesome plan is put together that curtails LOTS of this spending and actually saves us money. Your resistance is not grounded in fact.

Wrong! The VA deserves to be able to go to any hospital they choose, instead of shit holes that don't take care of them. Giving them vouchers (As good as money) to be seen by "top notch" hospitals and caregivers is extremely patriotic. I've seen how they treated my dad

Wrong... The money is the root of evil, but either the individuals or government will decide. There are only 2 choices.

Sigh.. access to care should not depend on how much money you have Mags. Right now we have a sick care system. Not a healthcare system. Everyone needs healthcare. From ages 0 to death. It is a common.

This is like saying "There ain't poor people because I live in an area that doesn't have poor people". Or "There isn't racism because I haven't been exposed to it locally"

no mags.if you have enough expendable income you can purchase the best healthcare on the planet..money makes the difference. Implants for bad teeth or partial plates...heart transplant or death..money affects those choices..always has

So we allow the government dictate our healthcare... Logical

So you are in support of being taxed 2.2 trillion extra dollars per year, allowing the government to decide which hospital, medication and treatment?

dumbest post in a long time
I'm sorry if someone saying something is okay because their dad was treated okay. My dad wasn't treated okay at the VA hospitals to a point that he had to pay out of his own pocket to be treated fairly

All you've done is try and sell its okay to be taxed because we don't know how to spend our money right, so the government can spend it for us. The same government that has put us 18.5 trillion in debt. LOGIC

I'm in favor of healthcare coverage by sales tax...you buy a lot of shit, you pay more towards healthcare. I'm also aware that affordable care will not be everywhere until there is tort reform and doctors are not sued to stitch you up...health clinics should be provided in every community just like public schools..you want specialty care, pay extra for your plastic surgery

THIS!!!! The Republicans and Democrats in DC have destroyed America.

Champus Insurance, which is the VA insurance for my father paid 70% of all bills. My father had to pay the rest to go to wherever "accepts champus". He had a triple bypass surgery back in 88 that cost 140K. My dad owed 42k after what the government paid for that nearly bankrupt my father. If my father actually went to a VA hospital, he would have been dead back then because he would have to drive 65 miles to go to the nearest VA hospital.
