On the season:
On tonight's game:
“We’ve had a good year by playing aggressively and executing well for more minutes than our opponents, but tonight the Blazers did that,” Popovich said. “They sustained in the second half better than we did. They kept on working at it and their aggressiveness, their physicality, their execution wore us down, and we didn’t keep it up.
“They went out and took the game in the second half and we folded, to some degree.”
On voting for Aldridge:
The Western Conference’s coaches will make that decision this week, but Popovich seemed convinced after Tuesday’s performance.
“Obviously,” he said, “he was great.
On the season:
The Spurs were coming off a 12-3 January, the worst of the first three months of the season for a team whose 40-8 record remains the NBA’s best. They began their brutal February campaign against an injury-plagued Blazers team that Popovich can’t help but admire.
“It’s beyond persistence and resilience, what they’ve done,” he said of the Blazers, now 26-22 despite injuries that have put centers Greg Oden and Marcus Camby and All-Star guard Brandon Roy on the injured list for extended periods. “I can’t imagine, if we lost Timmy and Manu, where we would be.
“They deserve a lot of credit for what they’ve done, but they don’t want the credit. They just play and win. They don’t worry about it. They just go to the next step and compete.”
