Head scouts aren't in charge of making big decisions.
They know (or should know) a hell of a lot more about talent evaluation than Nate McMillan.

Doesn't mean they get the final say.
My point is, the guy is/was paid to evaluate talent. If he can't convince Paul that his pick is better than the one coming from a guy who thought Taurean Green was going to be a solid pro, there's a problem. That's been the problem for years now. The organization is full of yes men who are too scared to tell Paul the truth.
I can see getting input from the Coach on trading for vets they get to see play and have to game plan for. But what NBA head coach has time to evaluate the players entering the draft? None if they are spending their time doing their job. Nate was always rumored to get one pick per draft. And each player he was rumored to have picked, sucked. Bah.
Portland's season ended at the end of April. The draft is at the end of June.
About 2 months to look at players. Seems like plenty of time, especially when picking in 20's.
There is a reason why NY would get rid of him cheaply:
*Primarily a pick&pop player -- lost explosion
*Max contract
*Nearly 30 years old
For the Blazers to even put out "interest" is fucking bullshit.
Chad Buchanan is truly an idiot.
Of course, that's if this is even true. But how bad Buchanan is this wouldn't surprise me.
I might take him off their hands for nothing, and I mean nothing. I wouldn't give them a draft pick. I wouldn't give them a good player. If we sign a decent point guard and still have cap space, I might consider putting something together, but I have a very low opinion of him and I don't think he's even worth taking up cap space.
He and Aldridge can't play together. Too similar; they don't complement each other; they both depend upon receiving the perfect pass. If one played center, maybe, but neither can or will.
Just say NO to Stat!
Go Blazers
