Portland leads charge for Turkoglu

I'm not convinced Batum is going to become this special player. I think he's a hustle type role player who's ceiling is Ariza. If that happens, then great, but he's really not as good as everyone makes him out to be. I'd be happy with an upgrade at SF.

You ever hear of a sign and trade? I also think if we could get Miller if they wanted him they would trade Blake and/or Outlaw no matter what KP said earlier.

As I have posted many other place, Portland isn't going to do a trade.

Further, Orlando doesn't want to take an salary back, so a straight up trade is out of the question even if the salary goes down.

Blake and Outlaw aren't going anywhere.

Now for the bright side of the news. It was announced today that New Orleans has the higheset salary of any team in the league at 87.5 million. What do you want to bet they are going to start cleaning house?

He wants an average of $10 million/year over the life of the contract. Depending on the length of the contract, that means it could start in the $7 - $8 range with max. raises over the length of the contract.

Still, what he wants and what he gets may be too different things. In this economy, with so many teams looking to shead salary, and so few looking to increase their payroll, it's a buyer's market for the few teams that actually have cap space and are willing to use it.

BNM

For all of the other free agents this might be true.

Hedo, unlike the rest, was a main player on a team that went to finals.

That alone will get him paid.

Interesting. I see his ceiling as Tayshaun Prince. I also think that out of Rudy, Bayless and Batum he is the best shot to be a real impact player for this team. If Rudy didn't have Roy in front of him you could make a case there. Batum had so many godlike breakaway dunk attempts that he blocked it was astounding. He reminded me of the rundown man "Jerome Kersey" in fact that's who I think Batum could be like with less athleticism but vastly more length.

Keep the CP3 Roy back court fantasy alive! :koolaid:

Who doesn't want to get their hands on Ryan Bowen?:devilwink:

I never worry about someone not getting enough minutes. I have heard it re: David Lee and now regarding Hedo/any other SF.

We should get as many good players as possible and let the coach work it out.

Injuries happen and players like Roy and Hedo and Aldridge and Lee can play multiple positions... there will be plenty of minutes to go around. I just don't want to have any Frye- or Sergio-level players getting ANY minutes.

That's the thing. I feel like he's becoming overrated (well, he already was) because he made a ton of highlight reel plays.

Batum won't be 21 until December... I think it's hard to overrate him at this point as a prospect. His PER was not stellar, but it wasn't bad at all. Where he adds real value, of course, is in his defense and that's not captured in his PER.

I don't know that Batum will ever be an all-star--I don't know that he'll ever score enough--but I expect him to have a very good chance to be an all-star level player.

Not as a prospect, just as a player in general. I think he's going to make an impact in the league, just not on the scale everyone is predicting.

Well in the way I use the terms, "player" is the current value a player has, and "prospect" is the net present value of the player: what his likely career production level is.

It's possible you were commenting just on what he did this past year, in which case I kind of agree with you. If you're talking about his future prospects, then we disagree :)

I was talking about him this past year.

Although still, my expectations of him in the future are likely less than yours.

I hope KP doesn't chase Turkoglu. He will take all our cap room and he wasn't worth the contract Orlando offered at 5 years 35 mil. 50 mil to increase our scoring, but add fouls to Greg, Joel and LMA and increase the other teams score. I don't think we were a terrible offensive team last year. I Like Turkoglu at a smaller price and a smaller role. I just think because this is a terrible FA market, teams will overpay for a player in the Eastern conference that is just a above average player.
I liked the Hinrich and Deng rumor much more because it won't hurt of defense, and Deng when healthy can create his own shot.

If HP signs Hedo then you'd be looking at a lineup of:

PG: Deep Blue
SG: HAL
SF: Hedo
PF: I-Phone
C: Rack mounted server.

I mean yeah they got some real speed especially at center and Deep Blue has had some success against humans in the past (Deep Blue Vs. Kasparov) but I just don't think that an HP assembled team can compete in the NBA...

Oh did you mean KP? Wow, ok well maybe I need to stop doing inhalants.

I think his past season was pretty decent for a 19 year old rookie some flashes of brilliance. It's the physical gifts and the defensive timing and IQ he showed that make me think he has a very high ceiling (Prince). I mean he has like a what 7 foot 3ish wing span? That's out of this world for a SF. He's like Durant if he played defense and was a sub-par shooter. Ok so he's very little like Durant other then frame regardless wingspan wow!

HP can't get Deep Blue from IBM and iPhone from Apple. Trades are all well and good, but why would they give up their superstars to allow HP to field an All-Tech Show team?

Thanks for the Typo catch.

Well let's face it IBM took on some really questionable contracts in the late 1930's and early 1940's. I think it's more of a salary dump and now that Deep Blue is out of the media spotlight I think HP can make a move. The I-Phone is a bit trickier and lets face it HP hasn't put together a quality product in years...
