Police officers shot and killed a man during an encounter at a Southeast Portland homeless shelter Saturday evening. Police said the man had crashed a stolen car nearby minutes earlier.

Police officers responded to a report of a crash at Southeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. While responding, they learned that a car involved, a silver Honda CRV, had been stolen in a carjacking earlier in the day, said Portland Police spokesman Sgt. Chris Burley.

Police found the man they believed to be the driver nearby around 8 p.m. During their encounter, Burley said, multiple officers fired at the man, who died.

Witnesses said the shooting occurred at a long-term and emergency homeless shelter operated by Cityteam Ministries. There was no evidence the man was associated with the shelter.

John Terrio, who was in the area at the time of the shooting, said police arrived in force, some carrying rifles. They asked if anyone had seen a man in a red jacket, he said, then went inside the shelter. Then, Terrio said, he heard about eight shots.

Was that even the right dude?
I think so. Watched it twice but I'm not sure. Have to watch where I can pause. Weren't there way too many cops? They almost had to shoot from confusion.

I'm talking out my arse more than usual right now, will have to watch again and again on my computer instead of phone.

I can not tell anything from that video. Nor can I know what the cops know about the dude either.

I can tell he was executed from that video....this is not the way cops should protect and serve...the news story said he hijacked a car....death penalty for stealing?

What? Car thief is the description I got.
I read homeless man steals Honda civic and police corner him in homeless shelter....just read it again and I think you're right Marz....he just hid in the homeless shelter....from the video he didn't seem to have a weapon in his hands.....so car thief was executed in homeless shelter....I correct my post

Over active empathy at play to replace car thief with homeless man.

I would bet, being a car thief had more to do with him getting shot than being homeless, if he even was homeless.

bs.....misread the article...corrected...this is your response? man in homeless shelter....misread as homeless man....simple mistake...and by the way...empathy is a very good thing to have in this world...on Sunday morning I'm pretty far from over active....
