Portland Public Schools 'rap music' ban sparks allegations of racism

Teri Brady, senior director of transportation at Portland Public Schools, sent a directive to bus drivers in March forbidding "religious, rap music, or talk show programs." The memo included a list of acceptable stations, broken down into three genres: pop, country and jazz.

When I was a teacher, I'd prefer students only listen to instrumental music on campus...I don't care if it's Chopin or Miles Davis....they are there to learn and their minds should be free of distraction to concentrate on their studies.

I always like turning up the volume on Cannibal Corpse whenever I'm in the trendier parts of Portland. "I Cum Blood" is such a classic song for stop lights. If I'm going to listen "cliched juenvenistic dad rock" then they can't accuse me of being unoriginal with my music selections.

Racist? LOL. Such bullshit. More like rap music usually contains some of the most violent, inconsiderate, and aggressive (inappropriate) language. Everyone listens to rap. The best rapper in the world is generally regarded as Eminem. Racist? Please....stupid policy? Yes.

IMO no music should be played out loud. If you want music use your headphones. Keep distractions down for kids and drivers alike. After all child safety is more important than 50 radio stations blaring.
